Happy Birthday Venus
Did you know that planets have birthdays too? On October 24th, 2026, Venus celebrates its birthday – a new beginning of the Venus year; or in technical terms, an Inferior Conjunction or Inferior Cazimi.
The human birthday, as we commonly know it, is when we reach the Gregorian calendar date that’s the same as the date of our birthing day. However, planets don’t rely on calendars – they ARE the calendars. So how do we determine when Venus, for example, has a birthday?
On October 24th, 2026, Venus and the Sun reached the same point on the ecliptic, which is the Sun’s apparent path across the sky. Venus was in Retrograde motion and it was placed between the Sun and the Earth. When this happens, we know that Venus is birthing a new cycle, hence it’s having a birthday.
How long is a Venus year?
You may have heard some people refer to birthdays as a ‘lap around the sun’. Thanks to Julias Caesar and Pope Gregory XIII, who abolished the soli-lunar calendar and went ahead with designing a calendar based only on the Sun (hello patriarchy!), any annual event is based on the Sun returning to approximately the same position, with that timeframe being around 365 days.
Their good reasoning being that the Sun is the most stable, consistent and reliable measure of time so why not create a calendar that uses the movement of the Sun as its primary source. But the problem lies in the difference of timekeeping between civil calendars and celestial mechanics, resulting in an intercallary drift which requires weird adjustments like leap days.
The Venus cycle is based purely on celestial movements of the Sun and Venus. Every time Venus makes an Inferior Conjunction with the Sun, it marks the beginning of its cycle which takes 584 days on earth before it returns to this same milestone.
The Golden Ratio between Earth and Venus
The inherent relationship between the Earth cycle with the Venus cycle can be understood by the Golden Mean Ratio, of 1.618. Firstly, we can see this ratio aspect reflected in the number of days of their years.
A Venus year is 584 days and an Earth year is 365 days. The ratio of these numbers is 1.6
From a heliocentric perspective, we know it takes the Earth 365 days to circumnavigate the Sun. For Venus, it only takes 225 days as its orbit is closer to the Sun. The Golden Ratio is also shown in these numbers.

Every fifth birthday of Venus, the planet arrives back in the same position in the sky, and this takes approximately eight years to complete. These eight years of Earth circling the Sun, equate to 13 Venus-Sun rotations. Therefore, 5 Venus cycles ➡ 8 Earth-Sun years ➡ 13 Venus-Sun rotations.
Mathematicians out there may recognise the numbers 5:8:13 as part of the Fibonacci Sequence, which equates closer and closer to the Golden Ratio the further along the sequence one goes. Leonardo of Pisa made the Fibonacci Sequence famous, but he might have been channelling Acharya Pingala, Indian mathematician, who laid the groundwork for this sequence around 200 BCE, based on poetic Sanskrit meters, called the Chandaḥśāstra. Check out this fascinating explanation.

So what can we make of all of this??
Archetypal resonance of Venus numbers
From an astrological perspective, Venus is a planet symbolising beauty, aesthetics, relationships, connections, senses and material desires so it’s no coincidence that the Golden Ratio’s link to human beauty and aesthetics is also an important ratio in understanding the Venus cycle.
We see many natural phenomena on Earth containing the proportions of the Golden Ratio, from sunflowers, pinecones and pineapples to nautilus shells and large scale phenomena like hurricanes, cyclones and spiral galaxies. Even the honeybee colony is structured in such a way where the number of female workers to male drones roughly equate 1.618.
This special ratio relationship exists specifically between Venus and Earth, and we can see this in charts of those born in the Evening Phase of the Venus Cycle, where a strong maternal, earthly nature is evident in those individuals.
The Venus Cycle Phases
Now we get to the astrology of the Venus Cycle. There’s so much loaded into the mysteries and wisdom of this wonderful cycle which I’ve written and taught about in the past, including the nature of individuals born at certain phases of the Venus cycle and the allegory of the Sumerian story of Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld that maps to the astronomical movements of Venus. I’ll link some resources at the end of this article for you to rabbit hole later.
For this article, I’ll summarise what you might be able to experience throughout the next 584 days as Venus moves through the significant milestones in her cycle. Included is also a visual ephemeris which you can refer to during the next 18 months, which will guide you to when and where you can see Venus in the sky. Reading these mini forecasts and meditation guides in real time as you’re observing the real Venus in the sky will change you! It’s a magical experience that I recommend everyone to do at least once in their lives, especially if your current age is a multiple of eight or you’re turning that age in 2027.
There are certain ages in life when Venus is more powerfully impactful in life, and one simple way to ascertain this is every eight years from birth. Of course, there are many more complex ways to assess Venus’ activation, as well as significantly more detailed forecasts that can be provided so if you’re feeling called by Venus to explore this in your chart, please book a consultation and get a plan created for the next 18 months.
Meanwhile, this is a simple guide that hopefully satisfies your curiosity and inspires you towards an intentional sky-watching practice.
