Solar Eclipse in Sag: A new world reset

by | Nov 27, 2020 | Forecast, Planetary | 2 comments

The New Moon Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on the 15 December 2020 (AEDT -11hrs) will be part of a string of astrological phenomenon that will bring 2020 out with a bang. During the week of this eclipse, we will see some important configurations form, along with some monumental dignity shifts (see below for transits). This is a huge ending to a year of intense planetary symbols, all framed around this Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius. In other words, this Solar Eclipse is big in every way – by sight, by feels, by impact and by the expansive nature of Sagittarius.

Shedding to make way for the new

This eclipse is almost like the bookend to the year passed, and a new beginning into a different world that awaits us. Within the eclipse configuration is the South Node (Ketu or dragon’s tail), who presents us with an opportunity to shed what’s no longer needed. Its intention is to let go, release and purge all of our ingrained patterns, ideologies, beliefs and material belongings that prevent us from our spiritual liberation and true happiness. We may see symbols of loss and endings during this month within our dreams, lived experiences and observations of the world around us as reminders of our need to cleanse and clear our lives because an important seed of intention is being planted under this New Moon energy.

This eclipse is essentially a supercharged New Moon and brings with it important new beginnings that call forth new perspectives, ideals, truths and beliefs to frame our new lives upon. If we’ve been ingrained within a type of dogma that has limited our growth, this eclipse will reveal areas that we can expect to see shifts. The house in your natal chart where Sagittarius resides will point you to where you could expect to see your beliefs being tested, reviewed or challenged.

You may be able to contextualise what these beliefs could be by reflecting on your life 8.5 years ago (2011-2013) when the North Node was in Sagittarius. Back then, your life focused, grew and expanded in this area forming beliefs and patterns that have remained within your subconscious. But over the next 12 months, as the South Node takes over, it will call for new truths and ideals in this same area of life by reducing, limiting and releasing what patterns were previously formed here. An in-depth study of your natal chart via an eclipse reading will help you connect to the intention that these eclipses have planned for you.

Mental disarray

Mercury’s conjunction to this Solar Eclipse adds a mental focus to its impact on the collective. We could see this literally manifest as issues to do with the mind, mental health and disorders, ideas, communication and opinions that are undergoing changes. Being a weak placement for Mercury could see this messenger corrupted in its nature – communication and transport breakdowns, unsound mental states, irrational or counter-cultural ideas, dogmatism, dishonesty and trickery could feature within the omens observed in our lives around this time. The square to Neptune further adds to the confusion, deception and disorientation of Mercury’s signature.

However, Neptune challenges us to see beyond our current state of mind and integrate into a larger, unified whole. It attempts to reveal secrets, visions and hidden things that could help us clear the slate for a new beginning. But this is not the way Mercury usually operates and the struggle between our rational and ethereal, logical and emotional, detailed and visionary minds becomes very clear. Confusion sets in, followed by disappointments or disillusions. This configuration adds to the idea of the South Node release as we’re challenged to loosen the grasp we hold on our realities and embrace new ideas and truths beyond what our rational minds can naturally account for.

Resetting to a new reality

Will you be able to embrace this change and see beyond the Neptunian veil? Within the week of this eclipse, Mercury will make a Cazimi aspect with the Sun, signifying special favours and superior insights that can be gained during this short moment. The clarity and illuminations that one gets during a Mercury Cazimi can make the hazy Neptune challenges worth pursuing in the hope of seeing the higher visions that day. Saturn, Jupiter and Venus shifting signs during this same week after the eclipse brings a welcome sense of renewal that we weren’t able to perceive prior to the eclipse. All of this will be confirmed when Saturn and Jupiter make their conjunction for the first time in the air element, opening up a new 200 year cycle for society.

New hope, new ideas and new truths are on the horizon and a major reset is upon us, both collectively and personally. You may see this in your environment as events and experiences that hold a sense of ‘out with the old, and in with the new’; changes in (or the beginnings of) perspectives, policies, systems, leadership and practices within the broader social context; a push towards integration of disjointed aspects of society – technologies, alternative practices, minority groups and the like. All of which is underpinned by the purging energy of this Solar Eclipse reset.

So with this Total South Node Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius within the orb of our experience, I encourage you to sit within the stillness of this vortex; to view the eclipse chaos and turbulence around us as symbols and omens for great changes happening within ourselves and our society; bid farewell to the patterns and habits that have helped us survive until this point; and, invite your new personal and collective intentions at this dawn.
