This is the gateway to the Medieval Certificate at Kepler College, where you will be introduced to concepts of chart reading through the lens of a Medieval astrologer. This course is based on the text of Sahl B. Bishr and will prepare you for future courses within the certificate.
The Venus Cycle Explained: Astronomy, Myth and the Patterns of Life

This talk explores the intricacies of the Venus cycle – its timing, qualities, stories, patterns, rituals and observations – and how it can be used as a practical framework for understanding our lives.
Venus speaks to some of our most fundamental human concerns: relationships, money and abundance, fertility, creativity, nourishment, rejuvenation and desire. By understanding what Venus is doing in the sky, we gain another way of observing the changing conditions of these areas in our own lives – when they flourish, when they are challenged, and when they ask us to reassess what we value and desire.
We will explore the cycle through one of civilization’s oldest love stories: Inanna’s Descent into the Underworld. More importantly, we will discover how her story maps remarkably through the movements of Venus, Earth, Moon and the Sun – an extraordinary demonstration of how ancient people connected celestial movements, myth and earthly experience to map the passage of time – and how we might use this same cycle to recognise patterns within our own lives.

About Shu Yap
Astrology Consultant & Educator based in Central Victoria, Australia.
I’ve been a dedicated student of western for nearly 25 years and have trained at the Melbourne School of Astrology (Foundational Modern Psychological) and the School of Traditional Astrology (Horary & Medical Astrology). I’m also a vedic astrologer, trained under the lineage of Śrī Achyutānanda Dāsa of Orissa, India.
As faculty member of the leading international school, Kepler College, I offer regular courses on intermediate & foundational level astrology, as well as overseeing their Medieval Astrology Certificate.
My mission
To study the source translations from the Hellenistic, Persian, Arabic and Latin Medieval periods in order to preserve and apply these ancient techniques in a modern context. I truly believe that this knowledge can help people gain perspectives that will allow them to thrive with purpose and meaning in their lives.
Inspired by cosmologies of all cultures
The one thing that unifies all people over eons of time is the sky. I’ve studied most of the Western cosmological perspectives and have also delved into the GanZhi of the Daoist traditions. More recently, I’ve been initiated into the Vedic Jyotish lineage of Śrī Achyutānanda Dāsa of Orissa, India.
Conscious devotion to earth & sky
Guided by the symbiotic relationship between earth and sky, I believe in a daily practice of devotion to one’s natal blueprint as a necessary process. My life as a grower, regenerative land custodian, mother, off-grid homesteader, consultant and teacher is a reflection of how I bring the skies to my service on earth.
Putting theory into practice
Knowledge without application is just a thought, so I encourage my clients and students to ‘do‘ their astrology, not just to think about it. It’s about observation, contemplation, devotion and conscious action. Astrology can help you live with purposeful intent where quality of time syncs with your actions, resulting in a more fulfilling life.
