Jupiter in Pisces: Incubating dreams

by | Apr 27, 2021 | Forecast | 1 comment

Jupiter will enter its home sign of Pisces on the 14th May 2021 where it will finally be able to expand and grow with ease. This transit is one of the positive highlights of 2021 as Jupiter, being ‘the great benefic’ is said to be able to provide grace, optimism and abundance when it is strongly placed in its own sign of Pisces. This is a stark contrast to Jupiter’s placement over the past 15 months in the restrictive, Saturnian signs of Capricorn and Aquarius.

In the deep waters of Pisces, Jupiter will bring warmth to these ocean waters, attracting many species of sea life in search of fertile environments to procreate. Jupiter in Pisces is a fertile environment, rich in dreams and opportunities for expansion, providing us with a limitless space to gestate our ideas.

A welcome homecoming

2019: Jupiter in Sagittarius. A hot air balloon floats in the sky, offering the vision and perspective for those looking out from the basket.

2020: Jupiter in Capricorn. Then a flock of crows fly by and punctures the balloon; the basket crashes to the earth. The survivors learn to live off what they could while tending to repairs.

Early 2021: Jupiter in Aquarius. After a year of hard work, the survivors have finished their repairs. Excited, they must now find a way to ignite the fire of the balloon.

Now: Jupiter in Pisces. Finally, flames start to fill the balloon with hot air, expanding and rising until the basket lifts off the ground and elevates to the sky.

Somewhere in ourselves, we all have a balloon that’s ready to take off, after a long period of being grounded. Jupiter’s entrance into Pisces is a chance for us to feel more uplifted and optimistic about what our future holds. It offers a space to rehabilitate from our past by dreaming and visualising our hopes and desires into our field of experience.

Jupiter’s influence on the world

As the symbol for abundance, expansion and opportunities, we can see how the movement of Jupiter through the signs of Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius have played out in the world. When well placed (in Sagittarius & Pisces), Jupiter brings good luck, optimism and meaning to our lives. When poorly placed, as in the case of Capricorn, Jupiter is unable to deliver its good will, and we all know what happened in 2020! (Take into account there were other very challenging aspects contributing to the whole picture here.)

Looking back at the past century, it’s interesting to note that Jupiter spent time in Pisces in every decade, except between 1940-1949 (World War II) and 2000-2009 (Global Financial Crisis). These years were devoid of Jupiter’s ability to provide grace, fortune and beneficence.

The Jupiter in Pisces period in the late 1920s coincided with the roaring 20’s era of social and cultural dynamism and economic prosperity. It’s unlikely that we’re headed for another time of this level of extravagance, however, we can be grateful that Jupiter will have the resources and ability to bring about its significations when it moves into its own sign of Pisces. Apart from abundance, opportunities and grace, Jupiter is also known for bringing wisdom, confidence, meaning, education, success, generosity and luck.

Being connected to travel and foreigners too, we may also see positive developments in the travel industry emerge when Jupiter enters Pisces. Will borders start opening up? Or will people start to plan for holidays within their borders? Whether you’re dreaming of a holiday, taking a short trip or simply going out for dinner at a restaurant for the first time in a while, the influence of Jupiter in Pisces will help us to relax and connect with good times of old.

But before you get carried away….

There’s a caveat when it comes to Jupiter. Left to its own devices, it is boundless, extreme and prone to exaggeration. There’s a good reason why Saturn is in the pantheon of planetary archetypes – the key one is to keep planets like Jupiter in check with imposed boundaries and structure. The shadow side of Jupiter shows up as a tendency towards over-indulgence, arrogance, poor judgement, over-commitment of energy, irresponsible choices and having vision without any realistic substance.

To understand Jupiter in Pisces, we must firstly acknowledge that this is the feminine expression of Jupiter rather than its masculine expression in Sagittarius. This immediately illuminates that the projection of Jupiterian energy will be more productive when directed inwards to develop compassion, kindness, grace and emotional buoyancy. This suggests we could be turning inwards to explore our fantasies, ideologies, beliefs and values in order to grow and expand. Searching for these externally could lead to disappointments, illusions or gullibility. This is definitely a time to trust your own judgments and know that the answers are already within you. You’d be better off to do the deep study and come to your own conclusions rather than to call the oracle (unless of course, you know of a great astrologer!).

And, Jupiter will only be spending a short time in Pisces, before it turns backwards on the 20th June and heads back into Aquarius on the 28th July. It will then spend the rest of the year in Aquarius until the 29th December when it re-enters Pisces and remains there until May 2022. So while the beneficence of Jupiter may be short lived this time (May-July 2021) it will give us a hint to what we can expect when it makes its second arrival (Jan-May 2022). Enjoy wisely, grow deeply!

Following the Jupiter trail in your birth chart

To see how this transit will be experienced most strongly in your life, you should look to which house Pisces is located in. This will be the area of life where you may receive a higher than usual level of affirmations, opportunities, help and general good will around the topics of that house.

For example, if you’re an Aquarius rising, Jupiter will be moving through Pisces in the 2nd house indicating a fortunate period for you around your livelihood, financial matters and possessions. If this is you, you could use this time to do things like asking for a pay rise, putting an offer on a property, seeking out financial assistance, holding a garage sale, for example. At the same time, you’d also have to be cautious to not over-spend or over-indulge with your material possessions so make sure you place some self-imposed limits on your outgoings.

During this same period of time, the house where Sagittarius is located will also receive some positive side-effects because Jupiter’s strength in Pisces will extend to its other house of rulership. Using the same Aquarius rising example, Sagittarius will be located in the 11th house of friends, alliances and hopes for the future. Friendship networks could lead to new opportunities in your livelihood or income, for example. This will be a great time to be open to new ideas coming in from your wider social networks.

Most importantly, if any of your activated timelords (managing planets of your current year) point to Jupiter, this transit will be an important one for you to follow this year, especially the dates when Jupiter stations retrograde (20th June) and stations direct (18 October) and a week either side of these dates. These times will be significant signposts for your annual story.

Also look to see where Jupiter is located in your natal chart in relationship with transiting Jupiter in Pisces. Is the current Jupiter cycle waning in which case the opportunities may show up by acts of releasing and letting go? Or, is the Jupiter cycle waxing, in which case the opportunities present themselves by growing or building something new?

If you’re interested in understanding the transit of Jupiter in Pisces in your natal chart, book a special Jupiter in Pisces session which explores in detail your natal and transiting placement of Jupiter until May 2022 to help you make the most of these Jupiterian gifts. This session will also check your current timelords through Firdaria, Annual Profections and Solar Returns to see if Jupiter is activated.

Love it Shu. The hot air balloon example is just so perfect. Need to keep the flame alight internally. Thank you x
