Lunar Eclipse Edition

We’ll see a very important full moon happening this week – the final North Node Lunar Eclipse in Taurus (28 Oct) which won’t happen again for another 19 years. Since November 2021, the sign of Taurus as well as its opposing sign Scorpio, has been home to the lunar nodes – invisible pivot points in the Moon’s orbit that creates fated portals of change, endings and beginnings. When New Moons and Full Moons occur within 18 degrees of these nodes, we have an eclipse.

Collectively, the position of these nodes and eclipses influence larger social, macroeconomic and geo-political trends as well as being mirrored in your personal experiences. In Taurus and Scorpio, we saw the themes of ownership and material value (Taurus) as well as loss, destruction and the rebuilding process (Scorpio) being highlighted across the entire human civilisation. For example, almost to the day of the first Taurus eclipse in November 2021, there was the major crypto market crash which saw the market peak then plummet in a downward trend over the coming months. Taurus is traditionally the sign connected with monetary systems, banks and financial institutions.

I’ve always stressed the importance of observing what happens around the eclipses as these events act as symbolic (and sometimes literal) omens for themes unfolding over the next 12-18 months. By the next Taurus eclipse in May 2022, we saw the crash of the LUNA coin which sent many crypto investors broke. We often see trends initiated at the first eclipse being continued at the subsequent eclipses of the same signs, just as we saw the war between Hamas and Israel break out last week with the first new Libra eclipse initiating – more on that later.

By the next instalment of the Taurus eclipse in November 2022, another significant bankruptcy of the crypto exchange FTX occurred, further cementing the doom of the industry. We didn’t see any Taurus eclipse in May 2023 because a new set of eclipses were being birthed with the Aries eclipse initiating. So this brings us to this week, where we will now witness the final Taurus eclipse of the series, bringing resolution to the matters of the entire Taurus-Scorpio journey over the past two years. And just on cue, the current trials of Sam Bankman-Fried, founder and CEO of FTX, is underway with some damning testimonies of fraud against him being presented just as the orb of the eclipse is taking place.

The North Node or Rahu is the lunar node positioned with all of these Taurus eclipses, which is known for its ambitious drive as well as its corruptive distortions. Rahu is “beneficial for business and politics where lying, cheating and stealing in the most deceptive way are things that get people ahead and make lots of money.” (Freedom Cole, Science of Light Vol 1)

The Taurus eclipse in a personal context

Let’s drill back down into the personal experience of all of this. The ‘as above, so below’ paradigm can help you to understand what these Taurus eclipses mean for you personally when you translate one associated macroeconomic story of the eclipse  into a personal context. Aside from their house placements and configurations in your natal chart that will provide greater insights to their meaning, you can perhaps consider how you may have undergone a shift in what you value in life over the last 18 months. This may or may not involve your finances however, the overarching theme is what truly gives you value, security, stability and safety to survive in a changing world. Other themes of Taurus include the making, growing and eating of foods; connection to earth or land; your five senses, the arts, beauty, money and indulgence. Intrinsically, Taurean themes point to a forming of your identity based on your material assets, your relationship with the concept of ownership and your needs or desires as a survival mechanism.

The lifetime effect of eclipses

If you reflect back over the years to November 2021, you might notice a transformation in these areas in your life in some way. If the Taurus-Scorpio axis happens to be in your cardinal houses, such transformations might have featured prominently in your life, compared to say, if this axis falls in your cadent houses, these changes might have been more subtle.

Regardless, eclipse transformations are fated transitions that operate within the context of your greater lifetime story. If you look back exactly 19 years ago, on 28 October 2004, you would have experienced this same eclipse at the same place in your chart. Similarly, looking forward to 28 October 2042, you will also live through the same fractal of this time. Tapping into the time fractals of every eclipse can offer illuminating insight of your karmic path in life and provide reassurance for major life decisions that you might need to make during these times.

To illustrate a personal example, October 2004 was around the time we had purchased our first home – a renovator’s delight as they say – basically an old run down house that was all we could afford. We spent that eclipse series transforming this house to a liveable state. The time before this in October 1985, my family moved closer to the city and extended family to support my father who was dying of cancer. Today, as the Taurus eclipse is happening, we are getting ready to move into our new house that we’ve built over the past seven years. Who knows what will be of the Taurus eclipse of this vintage in October 2042, but looking at past trends, I can assume this will have something to do with my living situation and the more intrinsic qualities of finding a place of belonging and security. Of course, there’s a lot more in my natal chart that describes this trend in more detail but I won’t bore you. You might like to meditate on these dates to get some personal insights into the eclipse this coming week.

Transits of this week

We saw last week that other planetary transits occurring with the eclipses have an added potency to them. The Mars Pluto square occurring with the Libra eclipse last week was enough to spark a war between Israel and Hamas. Given this was the first eclipse of Libra, it is rather concerning that this war will be here to stay in the current collective consciousness for another 12-18 months, just as the whole crypto saga ensued over the past 12-18 months.

Transits this week aren’t as intense as the Mars Pluto of last week but we do see Mars – the planet of war and action – move ahead to make an opposition with Jupiter (28 Oct) and a conjunction with Mercury (29 Oct), indicating that a possible escalation of the war is on the cards. Personally, Mars’ activities this week could bring extra impetus for you to push through your life with added energy, force and ruthlessness, driven by the need to overcome frustration or fueled by anger that needs an outlet.

Jupiter’s involvement makes things big and exaggerated so perhaps be mindful that issues might seem larger than they actually are, especially when you’re emotionally heightened or ungrounded.

Mercury’s connection with Mars is a day where arguments, debates and regrettable things might be said. One could say that the severing quality of Mars will help you to express what you’ve been struggling to advocate and it’s a good opportunity to bring voice to important issues. However, often times, biting your tongue on a Mars Mercury conjunction is needed remembering that words can’t be un-said.

The Mars-Mercury-Jupiter trio could be a way to get some great progress moving along, however, it could leave behind a trail of conflict and destruction. Be sure to expend excess energy through exercise, manual labour and physical exertion to diffuse the potency of Mars.

However the Sun makes a practical trine to Saturn (24 Oct) which might offer some assistance in managing the hastiness of Mars and channel this into some more productive and practical solutions.

So for our Taurus friends (or significant Taurus placement people – this includes the signs of Aquarius, Leo an Scorpio as well), congratulations on making it through a notable chapter in your life. May you move forward with more ease now that a huge weight has been shedded from you which reveals a more truthful version of your path, just as a snake feels as it glides through the fields in its shiny new skin.

We now open our arms of support to our cardinal friends – all Librans, Aries, Capricorns and Cancers – as the serpent slides into the Libran and Aries territories to nest.

If you’d like to explore more about eclipses and how you’re personally affected by them in your natal chart, you might like to consider booking a forecast consultation.

Thank you Shu. As a Scorpio rising these eclipses, especially in Scorpio, have been very intense, I radically changed maybe because one was conjunction exactly my natal Pluto in Scorpio, I experienced the Plutonic way indeed! I wonder about being a Capricorn Sun and having Mars in Libra. For the war, it is really sad and terrifying, I do hope it won’t escalate in the region as it can become a larger, scary war, as a European already with the war in Ukraine, it’s really close. I wonder when and how there will be peace in the Middle East…
