things to do this week

  • Expect great downloads, ideas and visions to come through when Mercury and Jupiter join at the equinox

  • Events from 23 January require review and re-alignment

  • Get plenty of rest and go easy on yourself because fatigue is likely

If you’re like me, you’ll be glad to invite the Sun’s ingress into its exalted sign of Aries this week. It seems to be an invitation to burn away the issues of the first quarter where we’ve been moving through the Saturnian signs, highlighting the heavy burdens and responsibilities of our living systems. It’s also an invitation to dry out from the watery Piscean season where we’ve experienced the whole range of Jupiterian excesses from too much energy, opportunity, growth and expansion to overpowering floods, abundance of rain and a rollercoaster of emotions. All of this capped off with an unhappy Venus who is generally in charge of our ability to feel joy and a sense of social cohesion but due to its challenging condition this year, has left us feeling limited in our ability to manifest our desires.

I’m glad to report that as the Sun moves through the Aries cardinal point this week and activates the Autumn / Spring equinoxes, it will herald an uplifting shift to what we’ve experienced of the year so far.

When the Sun travels through Aries, our insights, clarity and consciousness is elevated to high levels at a point when the veil is already very thin. This is the astrological new year and a much better time to reflect on your year ahead when the exalted Sun can help you to align to your true quintessence. By default, the exalted Sun will want to connect you to your divine will and help you seek your highest expression of this. Use this Aries season to receive inspiration about your goals for the upcoming 12 months.

With Mercury joining Jupiter on the same day as the Sun’s moving into Aries, expect great downloads, ideas and visions to come through. You may like to create some space to journal, study, read, plan or create a ritual to honour the Sun’s shifting light and enjoy the greater understanding and clarity you could gain from these two transits.

The house where Leo rules in your natal chart could benefit from increased visibility, elevation and recognition this week, as well as a sense of coming into alignment with its true purpose. Leadership opportunities and a calling to step up is also a possibility around your Leo house or any planets located in the sign of Aries.

The Moon will also be opposing the erratic planet Uranus at the equinox, bringing an instability of emotions, anxiousness and making you aware of just how much emotional freedom you need right now. You would benefit from a little spaciousness at this equinox as the Moon’s opposition to Uranus enjoys a high level of freedom. Feeling oppressed or trapped into routine could lead to rebellious, erratic or obnoxious moods, causing potential trouble for you, especially as Mars will square this opposition within two days. Therefore, any emotions and reactions made during this opposition at the equinox is likely to lead to tension-filled ramifications when Mars joins this combination two days later. Space, air, a shake up in your personal routine and healthy time alone for this opposition will help keep Uranus happy and out of mischief.

This combination of Mars, Uranus and the Moon is dynamic and active, but often in ways that are filled with tension, anxiety, volatility, destruction and stress. Therefore be aware of the potential for your emotional reactions to create distress, conflict and confrontations this week, as well as the potential for accidents as a result of being too erratic or hasty. Instead, opt for space and freedom as you work out how to channel an excess of restless energy this week.

One way to channel this is through social or humanitarian endeavours. Uranus is a socialist planet, enjoying to band together with like-minded folks for a shared cause. Mars is passionate, assertive and has plenty of will to contribute towards an interest. If they can negotiate a constructive cause for their partnership, the result could be quite electric and high impact. When there’s no directed use of the Mars Uranus energy, there could be potential for destruction for this ‘rebel-without-a-cause’. Mars and Uranus combinations can sometimes result in erratic choices motivated by boredom or unresolved anger. Use the equinox insights of the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter to come into consciousness about what your cause and purpose is. Only fight the battles that are in alignment to your true calling.

The second half of this week takes a turn as Mercury again, features strongly between 24-27 March.

Mercury makes its Morning Heliacal Setting, while conjoining with the sleepy Neptune. Most people, especially those in a Mercury profection year, will feel an increase of tiredness and overwhelm. Mental exhaustion and the feeling of wanting to give in is likely, but this comes as you’re heading into a peak time of the Mercury cycle which is calling you to step up to a mental / ideological / communicative challenge – possibly connected to events around 23 January.

Think about what you were doing around 23 January – are there any difficulties or challenges you’re facing now that’s related back to those events? Consider what issues you’re encountering now that you weren’t aware of back then around these events. Things could have seemed a good idea back then, but now you may feel as though you’re dragging your feet through the reality of this situation. If you’re feeling this, it could be quite possible you’re undergoing the ‘Nigrado’ process of the Mercury cycle – a surrendering of ego, a submission of wills and letting go of ideas as a way to purify your mind, its ideas and the forms that it has manifested.

Take note of what comes up because this will be your opportunity to sort through the mess and re-align those goals again, which may likely happen at the Mercury Cazimi on 4th April. So, if you’re feeling this, I’m afraid that you’re going to have to drag your feet through the mental ordeals, and try to nourish your body with as much rest as you can while reminding yourself that a purification of your mental body is just around the corner. Also, never underestimate the power of your dreams as you navigate through the Nigredo.

Meanwhile, the 3rd Quarter Moon in Capricorn on 25th March will help you through the Mercury setting with Neptune configuration because it echoes the same letting go and turning your back qualities. Honour your deep inner reflections and use this time of mental composting as a way to fortify your mind. Mercury’s sextile with Pluto the next day will further assist with this mental excavation, helping you to bring up shadow material that needs re-alignment. Make sure you look at what projects and events that started around 23rd January – that week’s events are an important topic for reassessment.

When Mercury enters Aries on 27th March, you could feel a slight improvement on your energy levels but with Mercury settling into the beams of the Sun, that sense of mental burn out or being overpowered is still going to persist for the next two weeks.

I recently watched you on the webinar with Jaime and this is the first time reading your weekly ‘forecast’. Imo, you come across better in your written word. Thanks and I look forward to your weekly posts. 🙏

Thank you Shu! These are great. It’s a wonderful teaching tool also. I bring up the transit chart on Solar Fire and follow along and I learn so much from it. I especially love the “Things to do this week” and “Transit dates.”

So glad you find it a good learning tool. I used to do this in my earlier days too where I would write forecasts ahead of time and check them against other astrologers that I respected. So fun to do!
