We continue the Jupiter-Pluto-Mars T-square from last week with Mars squaring Jupiter (23 May) in the final piece of the configuration. This energised aspect will see that action and motivation will be directed towards that Jupiter in Taurus story of addressing your finances, eating habits and your living values. Last week, did you consider what’s important to you for your survival – not just physically but emotionally and spiritually? Did the topic of finances, resources and the way you access them, come to mind? Did you think about how you can best grow your money and resources? What about food – did you crave more nourishing, slow food?

The Jupiter in Taurus effect may have brought these thoughts to your attention and now Mars is on a mission to bring them to life a bit more, especially seeing that Mars will also sextile the Sun (22 May). You may be called to move your resources around, make changes to your livelihood, initiate new strategies around food and eating and reorientate some important values in life. It’s a short lived energy but powerful nevertheless. If you need some big plans in this area to actualise, use Mars’ energy this week to help you create this. While you’ll be busy, the slower pace of this Taurus season can be felt now that Jupiter has moved in so there is a thorough and more considered pace that’s being set at the moment. Use this space to get to the garden, cook your meal, re-structure some finances and think about what’s really important and valuable in your life.

On the topic of Venus – she’s making a quiet little sextile to Uranus (26 May) which may seem somewhat insignificant but in fact, this is the first aspect that Venus makes in the ‘shadow’ period of her upcoming Retrograde phase. This means that Venus will start to move backwards in motion from our perspective during end-July and revisit this same point in August before it starts to move forward again. You can consider this Venus sextile Uranus (26 May) as a bookend which will start a period of introspective research. This shadow period of Venus will start to introduce important themes that will need to be addressed between late July to early September so be sure to take note on what comes up for you especially to do with relationships, love, values, finances, creative pursuits, fertility and deep emotional traumas. You may already be feeling tensions growing with others as Venus Retrograde periods are often linked to times when we are more tuned to the shadows of other people and their ‘not-so-great’ attributes and behaviours that usually like to stay hidden below superficial smiles and social niceties. Don’t react – take this as an omen to focus on your own introspection and self discovery. The sextile with Uranus this week may offer you the random book off the shelf that starts this process off for you.

Lastly, the Sun squares Saturn (28 May) showing some potential delays, obstructions and limitations that you could meet by the week’s end. The Sun signifies your purpose and divine will. In practical terms this could look like a career, vocation, direction or what you consciously ‘do’ in life – paid or unpaid. The square of Saturn to the Sun could show up as boundary issues, limitations (including self-inflicted ones) and possibly the feeling of scarcity and lack in some aspects of your life’s work. Perhaps work opportunities appear to be drying up or you may feel some sense of dread towards the level of work you’re doing. The ideal remedy for Sun-Saturn is to commit some time to do things of duty and obligation. It’s time to take action on the ‘too-hard’basket’. The Sun is also a significator of the father so aspects of the father principle could undergo some stress this week. As one of the ‘lights’ of the cosmos, the Sun could also indicate sight and vision. Issues to do with your eyes or perhaps metaphorically, problems to do with not seeing a situation clearly could rise this week. The Sun as the significator of vitality and life force could also show up as some dull energy moments where aches, pains and general pessimism could occupy your wellbeing.

Thank you Shu! I wonder about this grand cross, thank you for explaining the energies so well. I have a stupid question: is it true that it is not advised to start a relationship during all the Venus retrograde period or this is just a silly information I read somewhere? Thank you! Have a lovely week!

Hi Angela. Although the textbooks say Venus Rx is a bad time for relationships, I think it’s much more multifaceted than this broad statement. I’m sure whatever relationships people enter during this time is part of the Venus Rx initiation process. What i often see in practice is people encountering past partners and entertaining the idea of hooking up again – but whether or not they proceed is not always the case. There could also be lots of changes of minds / reversals on choices during this time. All of this is part of the Venus Rx journey if the situation comes up for you. Hard to say without looking at the full chart, so a reading is always the best way to approach this.
