Since last year, I’ve been eyeing off this week’s Jupiter ingress into Taurus (16 May) as it makes a T-square with the Mars Pluto opposition (21 May) and wondering what this might be. As the planet of abundance and expansion, Jupiter is expected to stimulate the Taurean part of the Zoidion which is likely to be our financial and food systems. But are we all likely to all get rich and eat amazing foods while Jupiter travels through Taurus??

If only it was that simple! Jupiter has very little dignity in Taurus which means that the riches of Jupiter may be limited. A diurnal planet forced into a nocturnal sign is more likely to manifest as soil fertility or richness of anything that comes from the earth. But nevertheless, Jupiter’s influence will encourage you to focus on growing your personal wealth and nourishing food habits at one level – so that’s always a good thing right? At another level, Jupiter will want to grow and expand the area of the chart ruled by Taurus so make time this week to think about some plans for this area of life over the next 12 months, and as always, book in a consult if you need help with this.

Mythologically, Taurus is connected with the archetype of the Minotaur – the half man, half beast with an insatiable appetite for young flesh. An elaborate labyrinth was built around the Minotaur to contain the beast and young boys were sacrificed to the Minotaur every year. The Minotaur’s strong desire nature speaks to the core of every Taurean whose sensual and material longings can sometimes dominate rational sensibilities. With Jupiter expanding into this Taurean archetype, we might expect the theme of consumerism (and its related issues) elevated over the next 12 months. From a worldly perspective, questions over how much we’re consuming and how our systems can manage the world’s growing consumption amidst limited resources are likely to put the broader financial and food systems on the agenda. Tangible forms of assets like precious metals, art and real estate are likely to rise in demand as themes of ownership, possessions and personal security become increasingly important.

William Blake’s interpretation of Dante’s Inferno, Canto XII, Seventh Circle, 1826

Shortly after Jupiter enters Taurus (16 May), it will square Pluto (18 May) which might raise issues of power and control within our financial systems. Jupiter-Pluto represents booms and busts or big amounts of money being moved around. The tension of this square sees Pluto in Aquarius having the upper hand, meaning that greater forces (ie. systems, institutions, plutocracies) will be putting pressure on everyday freedoms and simple independent living (Jupiter in Taurus). The push for CBDCs over the existing currencies is an example of this Jupiter-Pluto clash at a macro level, as with the possibility of a growing wealth gap as winners and losers become more apparent. On a personal level, you might feel the pressure to force some change onto important life structures this week but at the same time, feel some resistance against it. The fine line between expansion and annihilation could seem very real as you navigate big questions this week.

Over the next 12 months as Jupiter travels through Taurus, it will coincide with the dreaded fixed star, Algol in May 2024. Algol’s influence may see powerful figures in financial systems fall away which could really shake things up. The myth of Perseus slaying the gorgon Medusa links this malefic fixed star to decapitations and heads, metaphorically usually. Let’s hope that Algol’s influence can be used to remove the ‘monstrous heads’ that are corrupting our big systems!

After Mars enters Leo (20 May), it will join the Jupiter Pluto party with a Mars Pluto opposition (21 May). Entering Leo will see Mars back in business after being retrograde for 6 months, followed by being in its fallen sign of Cancer. Finally, our drive, motivation, resilience and inspiration will lift with this ingress of Mars into Leo. At the same time, the fiery Mars energy will also be back which includes impulsiveness, selfishness, anger and contests – the first of which could be this Jupiter Pluto story. Mars might cause an explosive start to the Jupiter in Taurus financial / food story by igniting our defences against personal independence. While it will be quick to move on, Mars will continue to ignite this same issue in October 2023 and February 2024 when it activates the other fixed angles. So this week, it will be beneficial to see how this fiery Mars energy activates you, especially around the themes of money, possessions, self esteem, values and your personal consumption in life, because you’ll meet it again in these two months.

Although there are many other transits happening this week, the Jupiter-Pluto-Mars configuration dominates. The only other important event happening this week is Mercury’s Direct Station (15 May) which opens the week with the big ‘go’ button. If you came up with a 90 day plan at the Mercury Cazimi two weeks ago, this is your invitation to get stuck into it. Hold ups an delays will be forgotten about and you’ll have greater power to press on with it. It’s also important to note that Mercury will go direct in Taurus too so wherever this house is in your natal chart is being developed in a big way. Make sure you take some time this week to assess this area of your life and jot down some actionable plans. You’ll thank me in 12 months time.

Thank you Shu! Despite some aspects, as a Scorpio rising I look forward to some easier energies (a little easier at least!). I wonder about the impact on the collective and our relationship to Nature too…Have a wonderful week!

Hi Angela – I think the increasing necessity of growing our own food will help build a stronger relationship with nature. Food prices are through the roof here, not sure about where you are. Have a great week too!

This was concisely informative. Thank you Shu! I’ve been reading about and following all the upcoming planetary movements and your delineations always are so clarifying. Jupiter will be moving into my 5th house! I love reading the Interpsycle Observator. Happy Mother’s Day too! (do you celebrate that way down under?) And happy upcoming winter’s solstice for you! And, as always, blessings to the bees… (have you been painting?)

Hey Jodie, thank-you and hope you got spoilt for mothers day too by your gorgeous family. Yes, I finally started painting again and it feels so good!!! Maybe Jupiter in Taurus is helping there…
