We find ourselves in the land of the psychopomp again, with the skies symbolising a lot of dark feminine energies this week. There’s another eclipse later this week but preceding this are two other underworld-style transits, being a Retrograde Mercury Cazimi and Pluto Stationing Retrograde, both occurring on the same day.

This Mercury Cazimi (1 May) is an inferior type, meaning that it’s the beginning of a 3 month Mercury synodic cycle, which you can align to a project or life task if you wish. Use  the Mercury Cazimi to inaugurate this cycle by putting some time aside on this day to dedicate some intention setting to this project. Mercury Cazimis are moments of realisation and insight that you can receive on the day that this aspect occurs. Listen and observe intently for omens, subtleties and ideas coming to you. Clarity, communication, good fortune and the granting of wishes are also auspicious events associated with a Mercury Cazimi.

Given that Pluto is Stationing Retrograde (1 May) on the same day indicates that something about the next 90 days will embody an intensity of feelings and a need to excavate deeper into a subject matter. Often, planets configured to the beginning of a cycle will have their influences ‘baked’ into the entire cycle so consider what your next 90 days could be with the powerful, resourceful and transformative nature of Pluto flavouring the cycle. At the internal level, Pluto’s strength lies in transforming your pain into power and brings to your attention the controlling dynamics that you find yourself situated in. Externally, Pluto is often associated with large amounts of resources like financial systems and it has a magnifying ability which can be good for research, problem solving, fault-finding and getting to the bottom of issues. When Pluto stations, some symptoms I’ve observed in the past could be ones that push you to your limits, peak experiences in physical, emotional, mental or spiritual levels, encounters with life, death and other worlds, shadow work and reckoning with your repressed emotions.

Furthermore, given that Pluto is stationing in its new home of Aquarius for the first time in over 250 years means that we have much to learn and observe from the events of this week. Look at where 0 degrees Aquarius is in your chart. This week’s Pluto station will give you a powerful indication of some important narratives that are forming in that area of life that will endure until 2043. Therefore, it’s important to use this Mercury Cazimi to observe and get clear on where your power is and what pains you need to transform over the course of the next two decades.

I gave a lecture for Kepler College’s World Astrology Day that presented some of my ideas around Pluto in Aquarius which you may like to listen to.  But the key takeaway that I believe this transit might bring is a big step change in our human evolution – in other words, what does it mean to be human in our current, changing world? This week’s station will produce a key milestone for this theme of human evolution during the next 20 years, as well as other Pluto in Aquarius significations that we will come to meet.

These two screen captures from the lecture show a summary of some of my Pluto in Aquarius ideas, along with why Georges Cuvier and Graham Hancock are linked to this transit.

Following on from the big events that start this week, we have another important Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio (5 May) as well. This will be the last eclipse in Scorpio until 2031 so it’s significant because it could bring some great realisations about your growth and development over the past 12 months when it first came into your life. Think of what you were up to around 16 May 2022 when the first Scorpio eclipse of this series occurred. There may have been strong themes of underworld, danger, intensity, darkness, anxieties, loss, power struggles or even taboo topics involved. The South Node association with this eclipse shows a push towards freedom and spiritual values, possibly instigated through events of loss, renunciation, decrease and removal.

The ruler of the eclipse, Mars, is in the sign of its depression in Cancer. Here, Mars is touchy, defensive and crabby so expect these moods to prevail during this Full Moon eclipse. This is not the best placement for the normally strong and resilient Mars so there could be Mars-related issues being produced under this eclipse that it governs. As the natural significator for strife, difficulties and accidents, I would watch for falls, accidents and events that relate to the fallen nature of its placement. Adding to this, the South Node factor indicates a downward motion, hence the symbolism of falling but also issues that impact areas below like the feet, basements, things underneath or underlying issues in general. The South Node could also point to ‘low’ feelings like regrets or ‘low acts’. Mars is also very close to the Out of Bounds zone in its declination, meaning that it could produce unpredictable and out of character results. This adds to the already unpredictable nature of this eclipse that’s configured to Uranus by opposition. So in short, anything could happen so be mindful to slow down and take precautions this week. As always, try to clear your calendar on this day and make spaciousness and time for cleansing, both physically and spiritually.

Speaking of Out of Bounds planets, Venus is also in the northern latitudes to the ecliptic and is capable of producing out of the box or extraordinary situations right now especially with Venus square Neptune (4 May) the day before the eclipse. This could indicate strong connections to other realities that may be outside of your usual experiences. Dreams may come alive while your waking hours may morph into dream worlds too. With the South Node eclipse close by, the veils are certainly thin so beings and spirits from other worlds could be particularly close. Be careful of over indulging in your vices this week as there could be little willpower competing with a greater need to escape. You could find yourself (or other people for that matter) acting out of character under the influence of substances, or perhaps, substances are not even required for this to occur. The beauty and creative aspects of Venus could also point to great heights being achieved in artistic pursuits. Venus also rules resources and things of value so there’s a chance there could be unusual activity manifesting in your finances and commodities markets too.

Eclipses bring change but in contrast, the fixed nature of these eclipse signs show a strong resistance to change. Both Venus and Mars rule the Sun and the Moon in this eclipse. Perhaps their Out of Bounds natures are required to force some much needed change around very stubborn fixed angles. You may like to reflect on where you feel a resistance to change and use this eclipse to surrender into it that little bit more. Consider adding this theme as you sync into the new Mercury cycle for the next 90 days.
