Happy Solstice Everyone! Whether it’s Yule (winter solstice) or Litha (summer solstice) wherever you’re reading this from, I hope you get the chance to sanctify this moment of shifting light.

The solstice chart can be read to foresee the upcoming three months. The mundane astrologers call this an Ingress Chart, and would use the chart of this moment as their go-to tool to forecast the social, political and economic trends for the quarter. I’ll leave the mundane report to those more qualified than me to do so, but I’ll highlight some of the important aspects forming this week upon the solstice.

First notable thing is that Mercury will be making its Maximum Evening Elongation (21 Dec), which signals a descent of our energy levels both mentally and physically. This coincides with a waning, dark moon which reflects a similar urge to withdraw and isolate. If you have a Mercury Profection Year, you’ll feel this most strongly compared to others. This time of inner reflection may see things start to draw to a close on the external level, like the pace slowing down, projects being withdrawn, collaborations ending, things being canceled and the like. All of this points to the need for you to withdraw into your own thoughts and ideas rather than to be influenced by others. Slowing down now will make the upcoming Mercury Retrograde period (starting 29 Dec) more productive, and less chaotic.

Jupiter will re-emerge in Aries again, after spending the last two months in Pisces. Remember what you were up to from May to October this year? You’ll have an opportunity to pick up where you left off and continue expanding this topic.

What’s notable is that Jupiter will square the Sun (22 Dec) at the exact zero degree of the Cardinal Solstice chart. This is significant. There’s an excess of fire temperament in this aspect which will want to devour as much fuel it can get. You may like to keep this image as a theme for the next quarter. It’s high energy, brilliantly creative, openly visible but can dissipate just as quickly if you can’t keep up with the fuel load. Watch for burnout, not just this week, but as a general rule for the next three months. Themes of wealth, enterprise, aspirations, big dreams, opportunities, entrepreneurship, advancements, learning, the law, morals, principles and rank are all possible areas where this Sun Jupiter square may stimulate.

Venus trines Uranus (22 Dec) on the same day and offers social excitement, spontaneity and an openness to approach relationships with less emotional reactivity.  Again, this is a theme that will endure the next quarter. It may bring you that little bit closer towards embracing your own uniqueness and individual quirks, with less attachment and less shame. It could free you from social or relationship binds that have been suffocating while allowing you to move through emotions with more detachment and objectivity. This aspect can be used to breakthrough creative blocks and transcend to new heights in your projects. In fact, it can be used to break through anything that’s been burdening your heart – from relationships, to emotional, social and creative issues.  I always like a Venus Uranus trine because it feels like fresh air entering a stale, stuffy room, bringing the sweet scent of roses with it. New perspectives and points of view can be gained and benefitted from.

Now to Christmas Day, which may be of interest to those who gather to celebrate this with family and friends. Mercury will sextile Neptune while conjunct the Moon which could deliver a trip down memory lane and spark some nostalgia in your conversations. Forgetfulness, lost items, tiredness and a foggy brain could contribute to some chaos, but all in good cheer. Overwhelming emotions and memories could likely wash over you like a wave out of nowhere, especially if you’ve had too much to drink which is a Neptunian tendency. The Moon Jupiter sextile will come into alignment shortly after, which is a positive sign that grace, acceptance and tolerance will win the day.
