Quote of the week

“A matter that becomes clear ceases to concern us.”

― Friedrich Nietzsche

things to do this week
  • Limit what you take on for the next two weeks, let your enthusiasm take a break
  • Have discipline with media usage and look after your nervous system

  • Think back to significant events at the end of November 2021 as the possible source of tensions, frustrations and topics for review
  • Hold off any major decisions until the intensity of the situation subsides
  • Observe the insights / perspectives around the Full Moon, especially about  how you can develop more understanding, compassion and forgiveness around relationship dynamics and creative pursuits
  • Stay open and flexible to the changes – if you don’t bend, you’ll break.

Date: 14 February – 20 February 2022

The week of February starts with the Evening Set of Jupiter. Happening on Valentines Day, this will be the last time we see Jupiter shining in our night skies until 25 March. When the planet of expansion, growth, abundance and honours disappears into the Sun’s beams, it’s possible you could see the ease, flow and luck of the everyday subside a little. It could look like opportunities falling through, successes becoming more difficult, having less access to resources or a general feeling of things not going your way. As Jupiter often brings people together (think of a priest, guru or teacher always in front of a crowd), its Evening Set could indicate greater difficulties in congregating or uniting with those you need to.

Think of this like a tired Zeus who needs a nap. Without his watch over us, you could feel a little unsupported, under-resourced or maybe see some pessimism sneak in. You could lose faith, hope and vision behind what you’re doing. Until Jupiter’s arrival at the Jupiter Cazimi on 6 March, it may be best to limit what you take on for the next two weeks. Laying low is one way you can make the most of a forced contraction of Jupiterian enthusiasm. A nourishing hot bath infused with Jupiter herbs will help keep up the vital heat in the meantime.

Mercury also enters Aquarius on 15 February, where it can tap into the collective and societal zeitgeist more effectively. Its entrance into this Saturn-ruled sign shows that there is a serious and somber quality to our thoughts as well as pessimism beholding us. Echoing the Evening Set of Jupiter, you could feel like a party-pooper with this transit. The call of duty, burdens and responsibility could be on the back of your mind and social interactions during this time could tend towards serious discussions and debates.  Though this is a great time for discourse and exchanges of knowledge / information, there’s also a risk of getting lost in the world of ideas and opinions of others, many of which could be dogmatically rigid given the influence of Saturn here. Anxiety and mental unrest is a common symptom of Mercury in Aquarius, so be sure to have some discipline with media usage and nervous system management. Long range planning, strategy, technical details, budgeting and innovative thinking are better ways to use your mind during Mercury’s stay in Aquarius, until 10 March. You’ll have more objectivity and critical analysis available to you.

But the big news of this week starts forming on 16 February with the lead up to the Full Moon. The Sun enters into a square with the newly re-located North and South Nodes in Taurus and Scorpio, revealing some of the challenges and tensions associated with the Taurus/Scorpio eclipses for the next 18 months. Think back to the first Taurus eclipse at the end of November 2021. If anything significant happened at that time, this week could see something emerge from that event, ranging from crisis and frustrations to decisions and actions. Whatever it is, there’s likely to be tensions and intensity especially with the Full Moon the next day. Pay attention because this will be a perennial theme until early 2023, while the nodes remain in Taurus and Scorpio. Build your awareness around these topics during the week but refrain from making big decisions until the intensity subsides, if you can.

The Full Moon in Leo that follows will be a significant one. Not only is it squaring the nodes as discussed above, this Full Moon will also coincide with the Morning Maximum Elongation of Mercury and the obscure, yet potent second conjunction of Venus and Mars.

If there was ever a time you needed to gain some perspective and understanding, this would be it. With both Mercury and the Moon at its peak distance from the Sun, you are likely to come to some major realisations during this lunation that hits right at your emotions as well as your rational mind, and it is likely to point to events at the Taurus eclipse late November 2021. This could result in decisions, changes or directional shifts as a result of understanding new perspectives or insights. Stay open and flexible to the changes – if you don’t bend, you’ll break.

The second of three Venus Mars Conjunctions occurring at this Full Moon adds a significant dimension. At the first Venus Mars Conjunction in July 2021, I wrote an article explaining the concept of the sacred marriage of this planetary pair which unites in the same sign every 32-33 years. That conjunction happened in the fiery sign of Leo, aptly symbolising the sexual fires that are common in many creation stories, dieties and mythologies across the globe. Now, Venus and Mars will unite at 16 degrees Capricorn on 17 February and the third and final Venus Mars conjunction will occur on 6 March at 0 degrees Aquarius – the point of the Jupiter Saturn conjunction of December 2020.

While Venus and Mars are the key relationship planets, it would be too simplistic to say that this transit is an initiation of a new partnership, although the dynamics of personal relationships would certainly feature strongly.

Whether you’re starting, ending, continuing, developing, reassessing or looking for a relationship, I believe this cycle is initiating a process whereby we are called to reconcile two opposing forces, within ourselves, with another or both. Under the broad umbrella of the Masculine and Feminine, we find the opposing forces of give and take, independence and codependency, pursue and attract, hunt and gather, strife and love. Venus and Mars are calling us to reconcile our current life pattern with renewed understanding of the forces that are opposing us, and in doing so, create new pathways for being.  This integration requires a healthy dose of perspective, which the Full Moon and Elongations will support, so use their insights to understand and embody what deeply motivates you and your other.

This is a potentially healing time for the collective as an opportunity to transcend disagreements and conflicts through greater understanding, compassion and forgiveness. However, be patient as any planetary ordeals, no less Venus and Mars, come with many challenges and heartaches. With the right perspective, the tension of opposites will spark a flame that will inspire for the next 32-33 years.

There’s too much more to say about the Venus Mars synod that’s not possible to go through now. I’ll be presenting more on this at the upcoming free summit, Bridging Sky and Earth: Embodying the Star Wisdom. Stay tuned for more details.

A minor but somewhat exciting and liberating aspect on 18 February is the Jupiter Uranus sextile. Whenever I see this combination, I always remember a point from Rienhardt’s research book, The Combination of Stellar Influences. It mentions that it’s difficult to predict what will happen with this planetary pair, but oftentimes, people are observed to have a response along like “Thank-the-Lord!”.  With Jupiter a little low on luck at the moment, Uranus could bring sudden relief or momentary respite on this day, in the form of liberating experiences or flashes of insights, possibly to do with money, finances, fertility, creativity or artistic endeavours.  Stay open for unexpected surprises that may delight and be sure to post any experiences in the comments below.

The week ends with Pisces season commencing, more next week.

“a tired Zeus who needs a nap” – so evocative!!

Thank you so much as always.

Using Planetary herbs in our every day as a way to harness and evoke the energies is a wonderful suggestion that so many of us can easily put into practice with baths, teas, tinctures, burning pots/wraps, incense and to throw into the fire when we can 😉

      Let that inner witch shine!!

Thank-the-lord indeed! Seems to be the combination of the procreative forces of the Venus Mars conjunction with the lucky surprise of the Jupiter Uranus sextile! Happy times!

  3. Jodie Arrington

Oh boy… a tired Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Mars and a full moon in Leo stirring up nodal shenanigans! I’m exhausted already! I think I’ll stay sequestered, meditate, paint and take lots of salt baths! Thank you Shu! Looking forward to your talk with Soma Mystica (will that be open to us) and am intrigued by their website and applied for more info. Thank you again.

    • Shu Yap

Sounds like a good idea! Very potent indeed if you can channel this into your creative pursuits.

Jupiter is in its domicile Pisces so in its chariot. It will work quietly behind the scene but still a loving and dutiful Jupiter to emerge as a strong morning star later.

    • Shu Yap

Ah yes, the chariot, I do hope it protect Jupiter from the full force of the beams. Thank-you for your contribution, so appreciated.
