The big news this week is the much anticipated Mars/Uranus/North Node (Rahu) triple conjunction occurring around the 1st & 2nd August 2022 (Australian Eastern Standard Time) . This alignment is an unpredictable bag of volatility, anger and frustration as well as immense energy, productivity and breakthroughs. Your guess is as good as mine as to how it will play out, but I imagine that having awareness about this configuration will go a long way to determining whether temptations of greed and desire will lead to explosions or excellence.

Mars is the planet of strife and severing while Uranus represents unpredictability and rebellion. Together they create a situation of rash decisions, impulsive actions and sudden motivations, self-serving to one’s own independent opinions, righteousness and sovereignty. You could feel more drawn to doing what you want this week, focusing on your own needs as a priority which is particularly helpful especially if you’re normally a people-pleasing type. If this is you, this week could be a great opportunity to step into your own autonomy and put yourself first. Feel the confidence grow within yourself as the week develops. On the flip side, you may feel the impact of the selfishness of others on you as they too will be drawn to focus on themselves. It’s a dog-eat-dog situation out there this week as competition and combativeness creates tension, conflict and plenty of headbutt situations. Arguments could be a common theme as you or others are feeling the need to speak up or stand up for what you believe.

The exact alignment of the North Node (or Rahu) with Mars and Uranus adds to the hunger, greed and excessiveness of this combination, further thinning the already fine line that this planetary pair tread on. The danger of the North Node is its propensity to ambitiously grasp at all things it believes to bring success and achievements yet it often does so with limited clarity and perspective. It’s the situation of the hustler that hasn’t done the right research and therefore, sells to the wrong people. Therefore, combined with the rashness and volatility of Mars/Uranus, this triple conjunction could potentially lead to some regrettable decisions, overwhelming commitments, time-wasting efforts or downright off-the-mark actions. And, this combination will definitely shorten your fuse for intolerance and impatience in its attempt to achieve great things so it may be wise to minimise your exposure to any unnecessary stresses or triggers this week. Above all, this is not a good week to be making big decisions because you may overestimate your abilities or misjudge the situation altogether. The lesson here is to stay centered on the empty void as much as possible to resist the temptations of growth, success, achievement and worldly acknowledgement.

On a physical level, it also must be stated that this combination has the potential for accidents and mishaps. And it’s easy to see why this could happen when we’re all rushing around mindlessly. Uranus adds that extra layer of unpredictability so injuries and dangers are a possibility. Slow down and be mindful.

This triple conjunction also triggers events and emotions based around the eclipses of mid-November 2021 and May 2022. There’s a possibility that this week will bring action and energy to things that emerged during those months, both the good and the bad. Broadly speaking, ‘good’ meaning productivity and immense efforts being put to the test while ‘bad’ meaning frustrations, blowups, anger and self-centeredness. Reviewing and reflecting on the events of these two months could offer you some perspectives of your current state of mind this week.

So what to do with all of this excess energy? There’s certainly an extraordinary amount of energy and will power available under this alignment and this needs to go somewhere, or you could burst. If you’re a news follower, watch for motifs of explosions, bursts and tension releases in the world around you. With such an immense level of dynamism in the air – or should I say, in the earth seeing that this is occurring in the early Taurus sign – you could see world leaders, politics, celebrities or even the environment succumb to this pressure cooker effect.

A useful way to expend the Mars/Uranus/Rahu energy is to find a short and quick project that may require a high level of drive and motivation. If you feel restlessness, anxiety, stress, frustration or tension setting in, a short but high impact activity would be a great channel for you this week, whether that is a project or an exercise regime. Look to where your Taurus house is located in your natal chart as this would point to the area where your energetic outlet(s) could be. If you’re ruled by Mars this year, you’re likely to have a big and eventful week with this transit. Or, if you have prominent placements in Aries or Scorpio (planets and points in these signs) you too will feel the force of this transit. Heed these warnings above and you should have a productive week. It’s also beneficial if you can find an outlet which allows you to work autonomously as this would greatly reduce the potential for interpersonal conflict. 

Venus, ruler of Taurus and host of this triple conjunction, is fortunately making a sextile aspect to this trio which offers a greater possibility of good to come out of this event, as long as you can heed the warnings (eg. stay centered and focussed on your personal short term goal). Venus will help to reduce tensions that could arise between people as she can offer assistance with sensitivity, charm and reconciliation if necessary. If in doubt this week, adopt a passive approach and trust that the right things will come to you with ease, rather than opting to push for things.

At the core, the Mars Uranus component invokes the concepts of freedom, liberation and authenticity and your personal quest to defend these rights for yourself. These two planets are our archetypal freedom fighters – willing, able and brave. They are also the quintessential rebellious teenager that resides within us – driven, inspired and naïve. Watch this week as you see these two archetypal images emerge within your environment, in the news, in your dreams and with those around you. And with these archetypes, the challenge will present itself in the form of an authoritarian – bosses, teachers, law-makers, parents, and whomever you perceive to be a governing force. This is especially reinforced with the fact that Saturn, the planet of authorities, is squaring this triple conjunction as well. The sheer frustration and annoyance of authoritarians will be particularly strong and obvious. Observing these metaphors externally around you could signal an inner need for power that’s seeking your acknowledgement and acceptance. Could it be that your stubbornness or rigidity is what’s causing tension? Or perhaps denial is preventing you from realising that the authoritarian figure is in fact you? One of the challenges this week could be to park the ego and discern what truly is worth fighting for. Ask yourself, “will this act truly liberate me or am I indulging in obnoxious behaviour for a trivial purpose or for the sake of power?”

Brief summary about the Mars Uranus Synodic Cycle

This current alignment is the beginning of a new Mars Uranus cycle that will last approximately two years. As it begins, it also completes the old Mars Uranus cycle that commenced in January 2021. 

True to form, this January 2021 conjunction didn’t disappoint as the world saw the US Capitol riot where protestors vandalised, attacked and locked down the building in defence of Donald Trump who had recently lost his presidency. There couldn’t be a more perfect example of a Mars/Uranus archetype rebellion, especially with the most public face of the rioters wearing a bull-horned headgear – the perfect motif of the Taurus symbol where this synodic cycle commenced. 

In more local news to Australia, the start of the Mars/Uranus cycle in January 2021 saw the Australian Government start the roll-out of Covid vaccines for the country. As the Mars/Uranus cycle progressed to make their 90 degree milestones, we saw developments in this story. 

For example, the first quarter square in July 2021 saw the spread of the Delta variant which led to massive enforcement of lockdowns and masks mandates across the country as well as the uprising of anti-lockdown protests. 

At the Mars/Uranus opposition in November 2021, new vaccine mandate laws were introduced to exclude unvaccinated citizens from public facilities which lead to massive anti-mandate protests. 

Now, as the cycle is ending and a new one beginning with this triple conjunction this week, there is a new wave of cases putting great pressure on society. Masks have started to come back on and there’s talk of possible lockdowns or restrictions again.

It’s unsure what this new Mars/Uranus cycle will bring, but we know it will have something to do with the fight for libertarian sentiments. It must also be said that every person has a different opinion as to what constitutes their freedom and sense of equality, so herein lies the conundrum – too many cooks in a highly volatile kitchen. It’s quite possible that regrettable decisions will be made and sadly with the turmoil going on around the world, this possibility doesn’t exclude governments and those holding power over the vulnerable. 

And, as this is all happening in the earth sign of Taurus, the symbolism could also be seen in our environment in the form of earthquakes, volcanic activity, landslides, sinkholes, etc. (eg. the Mexican sinkhole, Indonesian volcano eruption and Florida building collapse all occurred at the first Mars/Uranus square in July 2021).
