Quote of the week

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.”

Rumi

The first thing that strikes me about this week’s chart is that we are half a Moon cycle away from the next Taurus eclipse! And, with the week opening with a Moon / Mercury opposition in the eclipse signs, you’ll get a little entree to this major eclipse event.

From my training in Traditional Medical Astrology, the Mercury / Moon relationship was one of the tools that ancient practitioners used to assess the relationship between the rational mind and the emotional body. As these two planets are in direct opposition to each other this week, I can only imagine a deep polarisation between what you feel and what you think. The logical solution may not feel completely comfortable to you, or your inner drives may seem totally irrational. Meanwhile intensity could be building seeing we’re within eclipse territory while the debilitated Scorpio Moon could bring up some raw and vulnerable emotions.

Uranus at the Mercury end of this spectrum adds some extra colour and excitement into the mix – that is, if you’re willing to disrupt your thoughts and invite some new ideas into your life. Resistance to change is the enemy of Uranus and it will revolt at any sign of oppression and constriction. What house is Taurus located in your natal chart? No doubt, Uranus is causing some instability, chaos and anxiety there. But, the sooner you learn to embrace change and perhaps a new strategy in this area of your life, the better you’ll flow through these eclipses as Uranus is a key player for all of them in this series.

Security is a key theme of this opposition (and eclipse) – how well do you feel supported financially, materially or emotionally right now? And if you do feel supported, then at what cost to your personal autonomy or authenticity? These are some questions that could be bouncing around between your head and heart this week, so some nervous system management is a must.

Just remember, decisions don’t need to be made right now. Instead, you could use this time to explore every side of the stone and question everything that comes up. Moon Mercury configurations can show up as inquisitive but changing minds, so this week is not a commitment kind of week, even if you feel pressured to. Also watch for petty gossip with the Moon Mercury opposition – see my hot tip to manage this when I talk about the Mercury Saturn square later on.

Luckily, Venus offers some support to these agitations this week. She sextiles Mercury/Uranus while trines the Moon, so despite all the tensions and polarisations, Venus offers some grace and help to maintain a sense of harmony and reconcile some differences within yourself or with others. Venus also rules over the domain that Mercury/Uranus are located in, so her help could come in the form of creative ideas and general playfulness and beneficial social exchanges. Don’t be afraid to check out for a bit and indulge in some Venusian pleasures (social, sensual, creative) if things get too intense. She has the resources to help.

The Sun squares Pluto before entering Taurus mid-week, presenting us with more impulses for change. Pluto, which acts like a magnifying glass, could bring up some hidden details or forgotten parts that need to be attended to, especially pertaining to your ego and conscious self. This may come in the form of power or control battles that test the ego container and unearths some raw or cathartic material for review.

Echoing this is the Moon’s connection with Pluto as it makes the Third Quarter Moon in Aquarius. The unearthing of raw matter within us could be felt deeply in our bodies, our biorhythms, our stomachs and our dreams. So the two lights (Sun & Moon) confronting Pluto, the Underworld God within the week, suggests that a deep clean is in order to regenerate the path that you walk on. One way to approach this is by having a deep clean of your environment as a symbolic representation – ie. clearing out your cupboards or a clean up of the home environment. If you’re into fasting or purging practices, this week’s aspects could support this too.

Lastly, the Mercury Saturn square ends the week with a somber tone. It points to slow and deep thinking, long term strategy, high levels of concentration, communication obstacles (eg. writers block) and a reserved and heavy mind. In keeping with the Plutonic purging theme, the Mercury Saturn square could be used to embrace ‘communicative obstacles’ by adding in the sound of silence at the end of this week. Silent meditation and the practice of silent introspection is something that could be added into your week’s activities, which includes turning off all devices.  Saturn will hold Mercury to account and bring consequences to the impact of our words and communication. To avoid communication misunderstandings or the risk of gossip-induced consequences, it’s probably best to stay silent at the end of this week and hold your secrets close.

Hi Shu, An interesting week ahead. A quick question for you to clarify, if possible.
Many of my astrology sites have been talking a full moon in Libra, but I have it that we are now in Scorpio. Did we just click over into Scorpio and/or are those other sites in the Northern Hemisphere?
    Thnx

Hi Mardi, thanks for the question. The full moon occurred at 26 degrees Libra around 430am Sunday morning AEST. Because the moon moves so quickly, it would have changed into Scorpio by around 11.30am. Hope this clarifies it for you.
