This week is Venus’ turn to pass through the Bendings of the Nodes, which I explained in issue 6 is the moving of planets through the 90 degree square of the nodes and eclipse signs. You can think of this as a pressure point where issues are raised, decisions instigated and actions taken around the topics of the passing planet, in this week’s case, is Venus.
As the planet of desire, relationships and creativity, Venus’ passing of this nodal square will likely bring about questions in your personal relationships, creative projects and the things you lust for. You may find yourself reviewing what it is you actually want in life, which could jolt you into taking some actions or making decisions around them. If relationships is what Venus is highlighting for you, some tensions could arise around them this week, prompting a review. All of these developments, questions or challenges that are being raised could be linked to the first Taurus eclipse that occurred on 19 November 2021, and are likely to be topical issues until mid 2023 when the eclipses are all in the signs of Taurus and Scorpio. Listen carefully to matters of your heart this week where Venus resides. Heart-centred healing could be a good practice for this week. If you have strong Libra or Taurus placements, you’re likely to feel this strongly. People who have Venus as their activated timelord this year will too. In any case, everyone’s Libra or Taurus houses in your natal chart is where these developing tensions can be felt in general.
At the same time when Venus passes through the Bendings, she also makes a conjunction with Saturn, indicating that the review of such heart matters could involve a deep culling or a minimalist approach – whatever it takes to preserve us for the long term. This week, consider what you need to do to make YOU more sustainable – your future self will thank you for this. Perhaps some boundaries need to be enforced, or some organisation needs to occur to manage your relationships and creative goals with greater efficiency. Some of you may find this bland and counter-intuitive to the Venusian flow and desire-nature, prompting some inner frustrations, insecurities and loneliness. In addition, this is all happening under the watch of the Balsamic Dark Moon phase, further encouraging us to let go of a few strings in our hearts this week. Find some closure and make space for what really matters. Saturn demands quality, not quantity.
After Venus breaks free from this conjunction of Saturn later this week, it marks the finalisation of Venus’ past few months of extremely stressful aspects. We can hope for more joy and ease to return to us, especially in the areas that Venus rules in our charts and in particular, for those who are undergoing a timelord period ruled by Venus. So if you’re one that has been suffering under the stressful aspects of Venus since November 2021, watch for a shift later this week when the smell of roses may return to the air.
Despite Saturn preventing Venus from blossoming in her full glory at her maximum elongation, I have always appreciated the austere and practical influence of Saturn over Venus as I believe, it helps to control what could otherwise be an insatiable desire-nature. In a world where over-consumption dominates, literally and metaphorically, Saturn brings a healthy dose of much-needed boundaries especially when it makes contact with less disciplined and more indulgent planets like Venus. Use this Venus Saturn conjunction to help you minimise and de-clutter your life so you can feel more grounded and sustained.
By the weekend, we will be in the New Moon phase in Aries, featuring the Mercury Cazimi on 3 April. This Mercury-Sun conjunction is the halfway point of the Mercury cycle that started on 23 January, which I mentioned in last week’s news. This halfway point signifies a purification of the mind, which occurs at a time when Mercury undergoes its greatest ordeal. This ordeal started last week as Mercury went into the Morning Set phase while conjunct Neptune, bringing mental exhaustion and a reconsideration of what we started back on 23 January. But during the Mercury Cazimi this week, we may feel a shift and recalibration as our mental challenges are revitalised again. If you’ve felt a bit drained or overwhelmed in the past week, this Mercury Cazimi could help to re-energise you.
You can use the momentary window of the Mercury Cazimi as an auspicious time to receive help, special gains or legal matters, especially from powers above, authoritarians, bosses, etc. For example, if you’ve been anticipating a pay increase or needing to ask for any special favours, this is the time to do it. If things have been stalled, such as transactions, deliveries or other obstacles, the Mercury Cazimi time can be a helpful way to speed things along. As well, insights and downloads are particularly clear at this window in time, so if you’ve got any writing, studying, communication or planning work to do, you can do so effectively at this time. Being in the sign of Pisces, any creative, design or imaginative blocks could potentially be resolved too.
One teaching I heard of from Gary Caton, who learnt this from Demetra George, is to sit in a quiet space during the Mercury Cazimi. This could be a ritual or ceremony, or simply an intentional space to commune with Mercury and ask for guidance. If you’d like to invite in the plant allies, I like to work with lemonbalm, psilocybin and lavender for Mercury. After you’ve done this, go about your day in a mindful manner. When you next enter a public space, the first thing you hear will be an oracular message from the Messenger of the Gods. Contemplate this message in relation to your enquiries during the Cazimi.
So, if you have time and space to sit with Mercury as it conjoins the Sun this week, why not give this process a go. I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments below.
If you feel called to be precise, here are the times of the exact Cazimi in some of the major cities around the world where I know many of you would live in proximity to. Please adjust accordingly:
- Melbourne 3 April 2022, 8.58am
- New York 2 April 2022, 6.58pm
- London 2 April 2022, 10.58pm
- Paris 2 April 2022, 11.58pm
- Singapore 3 April 2022, 6.58am
New Moon blessings & a Happy Mercury Cazimi to you all.

Venus will be passing through my 2nd house squaring the NN in Taurus in the 5th and SN in Scorpio in the 11th as she glides past curmudgeon Saturn with Mars hot on her trail! Oh what fun! It will be a joy when she finally reaches Pisces where she can feel renewed and exalted after her dark voyage and give a big hug to Jupiter and Neptune! Thank you Shu for these amazingly informative weekly planetary highlights! xo
Good luck! There’s that light at the end of the tunnel.
