Venus in Aries – Love worth fighting for

This month, several astrological events are lining up to point at the way we relate with ourselves and others. Whether you’re partnered or single, your assertiveness within relationships will come into focus, preparing us for the upcoming Venus Retrograde in June – a one in every 18-month phenomenon that sees us reviewing relationships, desires and partners past and present.

When Venus moves into Aries on the 8th February 2020, we are called to assert ourselves within our relationships and ask for what we want because partnerships are only healthy if there is an equal balance of give and take. But the universe is always in a state of flux, and rarely do the scales stay balanced for a long enough time. Everyday pressures – work, family, health, finances and the like – will always tip the scales to one side or another. Before we know it, we get stuck in a daily grind of inner resentment and unconscious patterning of inequality. So, when Venus enters Aries, it’s our opportunity to reset the scales. In this placement, Venus knows she has to step up and be truthfully honest about how she feels even though she hates confrontation.

But how do we get our point across without causing a war? There is a possibility of intense emotional exchanges, eruptions and anger this month. Not only do we have Venus squaring off with the Saturn/Pluto/Jupiter heavy weights this month, there’s also a murky Mercury Retrograde that could confuse the issue.

It’s best to use this energy to work on defining your own needs first. Take some time to burn off any rage and resentments you have through physical exercise or tackling your to-do list because the positive side effect of this placement is sheer productivity and focus.

If you feel you cannot control your impulses to attack, it’s best to have some alone time to cool off and think of a constructive approach. This is especially relevant during the week of the 10th February 2020 when Venus joins Chiron, the  symbol of deep wounds and abandonment, at the time that the Full Moon in Leo is likely to elevate the drama. Later that week, Venus will also square the Moon’s Nodes, plunging you deeper into these painful memories. It’s best to keep a low profile during this week.

The end of February and beginning of March will see a tense square of Venus with Pluto, then Saturn. Hang in there – we’re in for a bit of a rough month in terms of relating with other people but it will ease of momentarily when Venus enters Taurus on the 5th March 2020. Trust that these times of intensity are necessary for us to feel into our own relational needs, as well as understand other people’s perspectives. After all, is love and harmony not worth fighting for?

Opportunities for honest conciliation

A more constructive time to work on your relationships could be the 24th February 2020, when Jupiter squares Venus, which will open up more opportunities for having ‘the chat’ about how you really feel (with a nicer delivery hopefully!). By this stage, Mars will have entered his exaltation sign of Capricorn, meaning that he’ll hold a more constructive space for Venus in Aries to assert herself.

Otherwise, you could use the Mercury Cazimi on the 26th February 2020, to reach an agreeable negotiation. This short window gives a newer perspective on the situation that we may not have understood before.

And, I don’t just mean romantic relationships – Venus covers all one-on-one partnerships whether that’s with your beloved, your business partner or a friend. So if you know that you need to open up a tricky conversation with someone you know soon, these dates could be help you achieve a more productive outcome.

A Venus retrograde year

This year is an important year for Venus, as she prepares to go into the underworld when she turns retrograde in June, and coerce us to review our relationships in more detail. During this time, she will make an inferior conjunction with the Sun and commence her 584-day synodic cycle, a fascinating cycle to observe as it will link up a personal story that will point you to significant chapters every eight years in your history, and into your future. Watch out for this article soon.

In the meantime, I hope you will be able to use the energies this month to constructively re-calibrate the scales of equality in any partnership you’re involved in. With any luck, perhaps the insights from this article could prepare you to handle any heated situations with more understanding of the unfolding of Venus’ journey around the ecliptic.

Those with strong Libra or Taurean placements in their charts will likely feel the rise in heat and energy this month. In addition, anyone with a prominent Venus or currently undergoing a Venus profection or firdaria period will also be affected.
