Mercury opposed Uranus – Insight, Intuition, Ingenuity

by | Oct 9, 2020 | Forecast

This week, there’s been an interesting transit story emerging out of the Mercury Uranus opposition which occurred on the 8 October. This transit will repeat again on the 20th October and finally on 17th November, because Mercury will station retrograde half way in between, repeating this theme in the skies as if telling us to pay attention.

The combination of Mercury in Scorpio and Uranus in Taurus can induce anxiety, over-thinking and restlessness, however, there’s opportunity of sudden breakthroughs and flashes of insights that can propel one out of a stagnant situation. Happy little accidents, like the discovery of phosphorus from human urine by an alchemist in the 1600s or the accidental discovery of penicillin in the 1920s reminds me to this Mercury/Uranus combination.

This transit story is certainly not the dominant feature of October. The cathartic showdown between the Capricorn trio of Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter squaring the Sun in Libra and Moon in Cancer takes precedence in our world. However, the Uranus/Mercury opposition persists until mid-November, pointing to cracks in the system that may reveal sudden insights, flashes of intuition or bouts of ingenuity. Notice also that this transit overrides the entire showdown period of the US presidential election. It makes me wonder what sudden revelations can be experienced on that issue for our American friends.

Mercury will be acting from the deep, shadowy waters of Scorpio suggesting the darker side of this androgynous planet may emerge into view. Gossip, scandals, manipulation, theives, trickery may reveal their ugly heads in unpredictable Uranian ways. Perhaps this may play out internally in our minds as we indulge in more sinister thoughts, taboos and anti-cultural tendencies.

To get the most out of this transit, it’s best to have a flexible and spontaneous attitude on these dates in order to experience the breakthroughs, mental liberation and excitement that it holds. Make the most of this transit’s ingenuity, innovation and intuition in a project that needs these attributes. Stubbornness and an unwillingness to change can induce anxious and reckless behaviour especially in mind and speech. Nervousness and scattered energy can appear if one can’t channel this onto something exciting.

For the parents, transits are always obvious in children – watch for nervous, erratic and eccentric behaviour , especially on these dates (/- 2 days) and find something different to do on these days that’s outside of the routine. Children, big and small, will need to feel a sense of freedom and liberation so be flexible and experimental! Also see where the Taurus/Scorpio houses are in your natal chart to determine which areas will be most impacted by this transit.

In among all of this, Mercury will also turn retrograde in Scorpio on the 14th October, which may bring a slight energy shift – perhaps some mental fatigue could be felt on the preceding the couple of days. During the retrograde period, we may find ourselves undergoing a process of review and re-thinking something that required extra depth and understanding. Mercury Cazimi will occur on the 26th October, 5.22am (AEST +11:00) – a great time to ask for favours and receive a hand from the King.

Lastly, the Sun will come to oppose Uranus on Halloween, very fitting for an evening where the freaks come out to play. The Sun brings matters to light so this will be a day to watch for possible exposure to Uranian insights coming through.

An interesting little dynamic playing out in the cosmos – it’s not a life changer but certainly one to take not of.
