The action certainly continues for our Libran friends this week or anyone with strong Libran placements. If this is you, you’ve just had the first Solar Eclipse – a phenomenon that hasn’t happened in 19 years – baked into your Solar Return chart, containing qualities that will be encapsulated within your year ahead. Welcome to a year of significant milestones that you will one day look back on and think, ‘gosh that was a big year in my life!’
As you might have read from last week’s article, the eclipse point at around 21 degrees Libra started a 12-18 month phase. This significant journey will impact the topics in which your Libran house is located in your natal chart sparking a journey ahead about the fairness and equality you experience in this space. Throughout this period, you may come to recalibrate your scales in which you make your judgements. Time will tell how your value judgements will change over this next 12-18 month period.
This week, you’ll be travelling through the eclipse tunnel, midway between two eclipses of different vintages. You’re in a mystical space that offers the chance to step outside of the ingrained everyday experience so that you can get a glimpse of the bigger horizon that your karmic ship is sailing towards. Strange things happen in this space. I often experience weird synchronicities, powerful dream states, fated connections, destined dissociations and perspective shifts occurring during these times. All of this provided that you can stay above the distortions of energies and events that are happening at a frenetic pace around you.
And what great fortune that between the chaos of the eclipses, the skies have offered you a Superior Mercury Cazimi (20 Oct) to focus on your ship’s destination. As I’ve written many times before, Mercury Cazimis are great moments of clarity, insights and beneficial gains from all superior forms above us – whether that be our bosses, authorities, lawmakers or those beyond the material realm like our gods, goddesses, deities, angels and spiritual allies. We can use this day to realign to our purpose, while at the same time, step up to the challenges that you’re facing with more support from those above you and with the backing of divine providence. It’s an auspicious day to have that difficult conversation you’ve been dreading, to ask for a favour or seek a pardon, especially around matters involving women and women’s issues, fertility, finances, personal values, relationships, justice and fairness. The Venus trine Jupiter (22 Oct) will also assist you to get what you’re looking for as these two benefics align to offer practical solutions and no-fuss cooperation.
The transits this week also point to the potential that you might finally be ready to make shifts within yourself – this could be anything from a philosophical / abstract shift or a tangible change in course. Firstly, the Mercury Cazimi squares Pluto (21 Oct) which will ignite strong urges for transformation. We all know Pluto likes to strip things right down to reveal the quintessential causes of symptoms that requires our attention, whether we like it or not. It’s square to the Sun and Mercury this week will force you to face some confronting truths in the process of your direction seeking. In the spirit of the eclipse tunnel we’re in, this might mean having to shed more baggage, especially around old and rigid issues involving authorities, bureaucracies and geo-political structures right down to the management of your personal structures of land, family, ancestry and lineage.
Mercury Cazimi is also the midway point of the Mercury Synodic Cycle which sees the trickster shift from its morning star to its evening star orientation. The physical change of soon being able to see Mercury in the western dusk evening skies, as opposed to the former eastern morning dawn skies is symbolic of the mental shifts that are being encouraged this week. You may come to a point of realisation that brings you not only greater clarity but an ability to move through the current events with more maturity, patience, compassion and wisdom. To learn more about the symbolic nature of synodic cycles, check out my lecture for Kepler College, Delineation Tools: Assessing Planetary Strength on YouTube.
Holding all of this is Venus – the planet that’s currently hosting these two eclipses of October, being the ruler of both Libra and Taurus. Therefore, to truly see the rationale behind these two eclipses, we must look to what Venus is doing. Currently in her defiant, warrior goddess morning star phase, Venus is about to make a significant transition in her cycle by undergoing her Maximum Morning Elongation. This symbolises a turnaround of events that could seem surprising yet has been brewing under your skin for some time. In some way, it’s as if you’ve exhausted all avenues of a particular situation and have no choice but to take a different path. The ship changes course and behind the decision to do so can be some painful realisations that for you to thrive, you may need to accept that you can’t do everything alone, even if this means having less freedom, independence and creative autonomy. This elongated state of Venus will see her being powerfully bright in the morning sky before sunrise in the eastern sky and she will now start to turn back towards the Sun. As such, you may also feel so far away from the pack that the cost of isolation could now start to outweigh that of independence. You seek the warmth and support of the Sun now which is not only the symbol of the other half of Venus (aka your other half) but also that of the divine source that resides within you. This process can sometimes feel like a bruise to the ego, but with these shifts come greater maturity and new perspectives that you’ll be thankful for.
All up, this week could feel like the week of practical and tangible execution of changes that have been considered. So I wish you well with your shifts and hope that it sets you on the right course. Stay tuned next week for the next issue of Observator where I will break down the last eclipse of the Taurus-Scorpio series, the resolution of a theme that began November 2021.

Wonderful and insightful as as usual Shu. I appreciate your writing too. I got goosebumps reading about it. Prayers (and feeling absolutely useless as far as I am concerned) for the Middle East, it is just tragic what it is happening. May we find grace and hope even in this moment in history.
