Be prepared for the unexpected this week as Uranus begins its retrograde phase (29 Aug). A strong emphasis on excitement, liberation, freedom, autonomy and authenticity will be met with an equally strong tendency for disruption, shock, abruptness, volatility and uncertainty. While Uranus commonly heads into the retrograde phase for several months every year, making this a normal part of our annual unfoldment, the week that it actually changes direction is one to take note of.
This is the week when the full force of Uranus will be felt strongly, possibly jolting you into a new way of thinking or creating new pathways that might not be fully understood or resolved until Uranus stations direct on 28 January 2024. This is the week where you’ll need to observe the happenings of your Taurus house. The life areas that Taurus rules in your natal chart will be undergoing somewhat of a step change or a levelling up in some way. Being a fixed sign, this Taurus house suggests that whatever shifts happening in this area of your life this week has something to do with a long standing and stubbornly persistent issue.
One of the greatest pains of Taurus is change and Uranus certainly doesn’t make this process easeful or smooth. Forced change is more the likely sentiment here, especially with lots of resistance being shown by the ruler of Taurus, Venus, in another fixed sign of Leo while the exalted ruler of Taurus, the Moon, is approaching a conjunction with a rigid Saturn. The only way you can productively navigate the Uranus tide coming through this week is by being present, flexible and open to new ideas.
Use this Uranus Retrograde to bring change and refreshment to this Taurus area of life as indicated in your natal chart. If your activated Profected House happens to be Taurus, be prepared for a big week this week. Step out of the confines of this area and into the possibility that nothing is impossible or unachievable in this matter. The great benefit of Uranus is that it can revive a situation that has been stagnant, similar to the way electric shock therapy can stimulate new pathways in the brain for healing chronic mental conditions. It’s a disruption that could create a new levelling up in a situation. If life feels a little mundane and uninspiring, this could be a good week to step out of routine with a refreshing reset.
Uranus offers a gift of the unseen and unheard that can revolutionise you in some way. The mythology of Prometheus bringing the fires of the Gods to the Mortals and revolutionising their lives, is often connected to the essence of Uranus. Prometheus personifies the inner trickster, out of this world intelligence, rebellion, mischief but more importantly, the desire to bridge the equality gap between Gods and Mortals. I also connect the story of Robin Hood with the Uranus concept, as well as the life of Ned Kelly in Australian history.
Uranus can demonstrate the fine line between our conceptual understanding of good and evil. Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor while Ned Kelly rebelled against the discriminatory and unjust authoritarian control of his time by leading a gang of bandits in their rebellion. Prometheus stole the sacred fire of the Gods which was forbidden to Man so that they may enjoy the warmth and opportunities allotted to the Gods. What these stories demonstrate are the surprising twists within the compartments of our mental perceptions of good and evil – that point when good becomes evil and evil becomes good. So when Uranus calls strongly in a week like this, it could stimulate you to be truly present in the truth of your current situations (likely your Taurus House matter) as you sit at the fulcrum of this tipping point of dual thinking. It could force you to consider the real truth without the filter of conventional thoughts or expectations that you may normally assume. In some way that’s relevant to your context, you may need to ask yourself at which point you need to step into ‘evil’ to create ‘good’. But equally, there will also be situations that you observe where the collective ‘good’ will be used to create great ‘evils’.
Whatever way the dice rolls, it all comes down to the values of the ‘tribe’ and greater societal impacts of your thoughts and actions this week which Uranus stands for. Bringing fire to man resulted in Prometheus being chained to a rock with his liver being eaten out everyday. He considered this painstaking punishment a worthy consequence for the greater good of humanity. So at one level of the Uranus experience is the outcast and the exiled that comes into play where you may consider any potential consequences a necessary process for a greater, collective outcome. This is where the risk-taking element of Uranus is drawn from and you may be faced with having to take a leap into something a bit uncomfortable in order to bring out the change that you need.
A retrograde effect can be felt a week either side of the actual event, so it’s likely that you may already be feeling these sentiments. This Uranus Retrograde coincides with the Full Moon in Pisces (31 Aug) which is the first lunation in Pisces since Saturn entered this sign in March. What this highlights is the awareness of the important lessons of Saturn in Pisces which might have something to do with destabilising structures, blurred boundaries of existence and the creation of new imagery that the world needs to be built upon. Saturn is quite weak in the sign of Pisces but is nevertheless trying to bring firmness and stability to a space that’s extraordinarily nebulous. You may feel the tension of these two opposing forces colliding during this Full Moon in Pisces as you try to integrate them. It reminds me of the reality television series, Alone, where contestants need to survive in the wilderness with practically nothing. Contestants are faced with the Saturn in Pisces problem with having to build structures for surviving within the vast expanse of nature which has nothing and everything, all at the same time. During this lunation, you might become aware that the necessary survival ‘tools’ of life can go beyond just the physical, material structures alone. As the contestants of the show realised, the mental, spiritual and emotional game can be a powerful factor behind their success and that nature has a way to to equalise greed, desire and other facets of the ego.
In line with both the Uranus Retrograde and Full Moon in Pisces, this week could be an important week of revelations where the path you’ve set may take a turn in ways that might shift your values and reality beyond what you had expected.
