Happy New Astrological Year! The Aries Ingress is the chart when the Sun moves exactly over 0°00’ Aries, at the Autumn/Spring Equinox, and is used as a predictive tool for world events and weather. This week will see the Aries Ingress chart occur on 22 March so this week’s aspects will likely hold a strong resonance for the quality of the year.

Glancing at the list of transits this week, there’s a definite theme of ‘newness’ coming through. The New Moon in Aries (22 Mar) coincides with the Aries Ingress chart. Four planets change into new signs: Mercury into Aries (19 Mar); the Sun into Aries (21 Mar); Pluto into Aquarius (23 Mar); Mars into Cancer (25 Mar). Mercury also begins its evening phase by making its Evening Rise (25 Mar). These are all testimonies for a year of new beginnings that we are about to embark on.

The big shift that’s bringing on the new era is Pluto moving into Aquarius (23 Mar). This is the only time we will all see Pluto in Aquarius in our lifespan as the next time this occurs will be in the year 2269. So it’s a big deal. Melisa Lafara and I recorded a Pluto in Aquarius discussion on my YouTube channel discussing the significance of Pluto in Aquarius and I encourage you to tune in.

While there are a lot of unknown facts about Pluto moving into Aquarius, what we know from historical studies is that Pluto in Aquarius has been a feature during big shifts in eras, with notable connections to the theme of revolutions. The last time when Pluto entered Aquarius between 1788-1790, we saw the American and French Revolutions take place. Meanwhile, the first fleet of British convicts were sent to a newly discovered Botany Bay in Australia as the social and economic upheaval of that time in Britain saw prisons being overcrowded.

Pluto signifies power and control and the shifting of large pools of resources. We see this signature of Pluto in many ways, from financial markets to emotional dynamics. Just like the revolutions and the first settlement, there’s a theme of power being shifted around, while winners become losers, and losers become winners. Pluto shows the magnificence as well as the horrors of cyclic living. Pluto in Aquarius is the focus of my lecture, Winners & Losers: Assessing Planetary Strength in Forecasting, which I’ll present for Kepler College’s World Astrology Day. Make sure you register for this free event or catch the reply on Kepler’s YouTube channel.

In the sign of Aquarius, based on historical observations, we’re likely to see the shifting of resources and power occur in the area of technology (ie. artificial intelligence, robots, automation), humanity  (what does it mean to be human?), evolution (where are we at with our current existence?) and societal structures (ie. shared infrastructure, utilities, welfare, etc). This week heralds the beginning of a 20-year period when Pluto will be moving in and out of Aquarius. We can get a preview of this 20-year period until 12 June, when Pluto will move back into Capricorn for a few more months before re-entering Aquarius again on 21 January 2024. Watch for shifts in power and personal revolutions revealing themselves in the area of your life ruled by your Aquarian house.

With so much emphasis on Pluto in Aquarius, it’s easy to ignore some of the other transits happening this week. But important to note is that Mars entering Cancer (25 Mar) will end an epic six months of Mars being in Gemini, ending the whole Mars Retrograde story. Consider where your Gemini house is in your natal chart. Essentially, Mars’ move into Cancer will reduce much mental anguish, stress, worry and busyness in this area of life for you. So with this new year underway, enjoy the break from a Mars-free Gemini zone.

We end this week with Mercury’ Heliacal Evening Rise (25 Mar), the strongest, most brilliant part of the Mercury cycle, suggesting that there’s much to be learnt from the skies right now. As it rises in the evening skies on the western horizon after sunset, Mercury will enter its strongest part of its cycle where knowledge gained can be transformed into great wisdom. Teachers, learning opportunities and the will to study are often arising at this time.
