There’s an active Cardinal energy again this week, mainly caused by the stellium of Venus, Pluto and Mercury (whose) about to turn Retrograde in Capricorn, squared to the First Quarter Aries Moon.

This configuration is affecting the collective at a very personal level with the inner planets, Mercury, Venus and the Moon involved. Pluto’s involvement means that big personal shifts are possible for you this week. Long range plans and foundational structures in life could be the subject of some changes and reviews. You could feel a readiness and courage to initiate actions that might result in tangible or dramatic changes.

In the spirit of Mercury going Retrograde (29 Dec), I invite you to cast your mind back to this time last year, when Mercury, Venus and Pluto made a stellium in Capricorn too. The only difference is that Venus was Retrograde instead of Mercury, therefore last year had a relationship flavour while this year focuses more on your intellect. Can you recall a time of intensity? Scarcity? Darkness? Isolation?

This stellium can dredge up very deep emotions and memories that have been ignored for too long. Sometimes, external events may show up with themes of decay, destruction, endings and loss and these may trigger hidden aspects of yourself that might be hard to confront.

Mercury and Venus join Pluto every 12 months approximately. You can expect to deepen your mind and see your personal issues in a magnified way when this yearly event occurs. Mercury and Venus have visited Pluto in Capricorn every year since 2008, sometimes together, other times separately. This year will be the last time the trio meet in Capricorn for another 230 years approximately. That’s some big underlying alchemy that’s been occurring in your Capricorn house for the past 14 years. Here are some contemplations that could help you become aware of the purpose behind this cycle within your personal context…

  • How have you deepened your understanding and embodiment in this area of life (the Capricorn house in your natal chart)?
  • How have you been forced to see yourself in your most raw and vulnerable form here?
  • What purpose does your personal journey in this area serve to the larger collective story?
  • What new structures have emerged here?

The manifestations of Pluto’s stay in Capricorn since 2008 have been quite tangible and obvious – the hardest areas hit being bureaucracies, big companies and governments – all Capricorn images. It started with the Global Financial Crisis that shattered the structure of the world’s monetary system. Pluto’s investigative nature produced scandals and exposés to force greater transparency at the authoritarian level – think Wikileaks and the Catholic Church’s accusations for repeatedly covering sexual abuse. An ever worsening state of the environment and natural disasters continued to peak in the past decade. The past 14 years have been characterised by a decay of bureaucracies and the structures that contain society – the coronavirus being the final episode to this crumbling state of the ‘old’ world.

As Pluto now prepares to enter its new sign of Aquarius in March 2023, we’re left to reflect on ‘what has been’ with the help of Mercury and Venus making their last meeting with Pluto in Capricorn in our lifetime. Like tectonic plates slowly moving under our feet, Pluto in Capricorn’s journey over the past 14 years may see you standing on completely new ground now. Your thoughts and ideas (Mercury) along with your personal relationships (Venus) somehow reflect this slow metamorphosis. This week, as you end your calendar year, make some time to contemplate this important chapter of your life, the one that started in 2008 and ends in three months time.

You’ll definitely hear more about Pluto’s entry into Aquarius very soon through my future writings and a YouTube episode with a special guest. I’m also offering a special 2023 Transit Reading if you’d like a personalised  analysis of the major 2023 transits. Be sure to book your appointment for this special offer of AUD 100 / 30min reading, as there are only limited sessions available.
