As the Crescent Moon becomes visible from the New Moon in Virgo last week, you too may see a new little story emerge within your consciousness. From this week until mid-October, you could be involved in a stimulating journey of learning, exploration, study, communication and the world of big ideas in some way when Mercury opposes Jupiter. This opposition brings possibilities to develop ideas around the areas of education, communication, publication, philosophy, spirituality, truth and religion. It will occur three times between now and mid-October, meaning that this otherwise fleeting transit is here to command our attention for a little while. If you have any project or goals around these themes above, you could find this period of time beneficial to pursue those ideas. If not, then perhaps take this opportunity to explore and learn something.
The Jupiter Mercury opposition starts at the time that Venus and Saturn make an opposition (29 August) as well. There seems to be aspirations for something long term to sprout from the events of this week. These desires for longevity could show up as themes of sustainability; choosing a slower and more enduring solution rather than a quick fix; physical longevity requiring our attention (for example, addressing chronic ailments within the body), financial sustainability, long-term relationship tensions needing to be confronted and anything that challenges you to draw away from immediate results in order to focus on your happiness in the long game. Some time alone to reflect or meditate on what your long term desires could be a valuable exercise this week, especially with the Jupiter Mercury story aligning concurrently.
The first of the three Jupiter Mercury oppositions happens this week (3 Sep) and opens up a new story that will unfold through to mid October. Have you got a big idea building inside you? Perhaps you’re ready to take a leap into something that will lead you on a steep learning curve? Is it time to bring some tactical approaches to animate some big-picture visions? This week, think about a possible six week project that you could indulge in that could be expansive and stimulating on the mental front. The brain could be firing off ideas that could materialise into opportunities around you. Look to the Aries-Libra axis in your natal chart to check what areas of life could be receiving these downloads and personal developments. The following oppositions of Jupiter and Mercury will happen on 19 September and 12 October so mark these dates in your calendar as significant milestones for this learning journey.
The oppositional aspect between Jupiter and Mercury shows a duality between the two planets that will need to be managed. Just like the judicial system, the laws must be upheld as much as they must represent the rights and liberties of the people. A corruption at either end could lead to dishonour and gross injustice. This week’s initiation of the learning journey will require you to balance the philosophical ideals that you hold, with the tactical execution of your strategies. Do your values align with your practical outcomes or does one side weigh heavier? Especially with Mercury in Libra which is also hosting many of the current planets as their final significator right now, be prepared to deal with the issue of balance in the upcoming six weeks. Whether its balancing voices in a narrative, proportions in a sculpture, equality within a contract and the like, chances are your mental faculties will be stretched to weigh such matters, or risk agitations and misjudgements occurring.
Mars sextiling Jupiter and trining Mercury (1 Sep) will certainly bring some fuel to help mobilise this learning curve by offering the gift of decisiveness, courage, enthusiasm, entrepreneurship and dynamism. Enjoy the extra bounce in your strides and excitement to take on any passions you may have. As always, try to have a moment of pause before you commit to anything, as Mars will naturally offer his impulsiveness. Any actions taken this week will have significant consequences for the next seven months due to the upcoming retrograde (see next paragraph).
It’s interesting to note that Mars makes these aspects very close to the degree in which it will return to in mid-January 2023 due to its upcoming Retrograde course that will commence late October. This indicates that the decisions and actions of this week could be revisited or have significant consideration during mid-January 2023 and late October 2022 period. Perhaps you find yourself making a decision this week which then backtracks (due to the fickleness of Mars in Gemini) and holds consequences for the months of October and January. Or, it could be that whatever actions are undertaken this week could be helpful for the upcoming October/January periods. Maybe the aspiring visions and big ideas for the project you wish to pursue for the 7-month Mars in Gemini period is being seeded this week.
As the first light of the Moon grows to the First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius (4 September), you may see your seed of ideas grow towards manifestation. There’s a significant ‘inception’ moment this week, for a productive, short term goal that you should try to bring your intentions to. The more awareness you can offer to this moment, the smoother your upcoming Mars Retrograde journey will be over the next seven months.
