The highly anticipated Mars Pluto opposition (3 Nov) is about to drop this week. Hang on to your hats, this is an explosive, confronting and volatile combat that’s about to take place. The battle of wills, the fight for power and the aggressive force for control are characteristic of this Mars Pluto opposition. At the same time, there’s an ability to tap into an immense level of inner force which you can direct towards something productive. It’s a superhuman power that you never thought you had. Remember, this force doesn’t necessarily need to be an external one. It could be an internal force that could be harnessed through your spiritual practices, self development, manifestation or the conscious enactment of your will.

You may use this energy to do something you never thought you would have capacity to do.  However, there are costs involved. If used externally you could run the risk of exhaustion, accidents, conflict, tension, anger, aggression and harm. Internally, you could be navigating through some cathartic spaces. Yet, if you can channel this energy wisely and with caution, you could successfully achieve something beyond your belief.

The Mars Pluto opposition will be playing out across the Cancer-Capricorn axis of your chart, so watch for great forces enacting in this area of life. These signs involve the dynamic between inner family and outer life, work-life balance, emotional needs and societal obligation, the mother and the father, your immediate family and your ancient traditions. You could be putting your foot down on these matters to enforce your stance and boundaries. You may choose to cultivate personal energy to address these matters on a spiritual or inner work dimension.

In the context of the past two weeks, we had Mercury and the Sun visiting Pluto in Capricorn for the last time in our lifetime, indicating the urge to finalise some kind of long standing theme within our lives. This week, Mars will make that final encounter too, indicating attempts at a final push for completion that requires significant force and effort. But, there’s a twist. It’s a complicated kind of completion that could open up some new themes too. The New Moon in Scorpio (1 Nov) also suggests that whatever this aspect brings might likely commence something new too.

Unlike Mercury and the Sun, Mars will make this opposition with Pluto three times. The first opposition will happen this week, the next on 3 Jan and the final one 27 April. This volatile and explosive energy being instigated this week is going to be with us until it resolves in April next year. You might think you’ve resolved your Mars Pluto story, but it will resurface in the new year. It’s important to keep this in mind as it might help you to be a bit more flexible and open minded to dynamic changes. It will also help you to maintain stamina for the long game.

The other twist is that the Mars Pluto opposition will occur in Cancer-Capricorn this time, but for the subsequent two occasions, the pair will oppose in their new signs of Leo-Aquarius. So while the story starts with one theme, it’s likely going to evolve to include other areas of your life, indicated by the Leo-Aquarius axis. You could change your mind about something which reopens the story for you in the new year. Or, perhaps something external to you rises to change that narrative for you.

With the US election pinned to this Mars Pluto opposition, it indicates that this event could be highly combative in nature and that the issues and consequences of this election will likely reemerge as prominent themes in January and April 2025. Think about what you have to deal with this week – can you see a trajectory of this topic moving forward into the first quarter next year? Knowledge of this can help you temper some reactions or plan for some shifts and evolving themes of this topic.

Despite the intensity and volatility of this aspect, we have a very special Star of David configuration forming involving Mercury, the Moon, Mars, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto.  Sometimes known as the Grand Sextile, this hexagram shape of the six planets involves three trines and three oppositions, indicating the merging of opportunity and conflict. Bill Tierney from his famous book, Dynamics of Aspect Analysis writes that grand sextiles stimulate us to “creatively mobilise our forces here and reach out towards the world.”

He gives some tips on using this energy:

“Because of the grandess of this configuration, we best use it when supporting the growth of a social cause that drives us to make use of the full range of our talents and skills. It can denote an above-average degree of versatility.

“Aid and assistance come from many varied areas in our environment, as long as we remain open, cooperative and able to complement the needs of others. These oppositions also remind us to consciously coordinate our activities and direct them towards external objectives, rather than contain them for our self-centred advantage.”

This Star of David configuration is one of the key configurations that will keep popping up next year. It gives me hope that in the midst of much instability and crisis forecasted over the next couple of years, there is an underlying opportunity for social change and a redesign of the old systems.

In fact, this Mars Retrograde story is tied into the Star of David configuration and this week we will see its temporary alignment of the swift moving Moon and Mercury, indicating an emotional and mental introduction or perhaps, a reorganisation to great gifts available to you which has broader appeal. Peak day for this temporary Star of David will be Monday 28 October (Universal Time).

With all this information, I wish you the best in manifesting your future.

Thank you Shu! Such an interesting interpretation of the sky with this Star of David or Grand Sextile. The sky is so mysterious and there are different layers all the time. When I do see this my anxiety fades a little bit submerged by awe. As a Scorpio rising I do feel the opposition very internally now, a battle of forces inside of me, the inner and outer worlds are always connected and one influences the other. As David Bowie used to say: the biggest revolutions are in our heads. Have a lovely week!
