We enter the eclipse portal this week with the New Moon in Virgo (3 Sep) eventually becoming a Full Moon Lunar Eclispe in Pisces in a couple of weeks. Take this week as a new little chapter opening for you, which holds many possibilities and mysteries for the next two year period. If you have strong planetary or angular placements across the Virgo-Pisces axis, then this will be a significant week for you. You’re not quite there in the rich, transformative abyss of the eclipse yet, but you’re about to take that inevitable dive in.
There’ll be more on the eclipse in the next fortnight but for now, the best thing you can do is to sit with the New Moon, in contemplation of your purpose and destiny. Do nothing but observe yourself in this space and build awareness of what possibilities might be in your field. Change is the prescribed effect of eclipses but often it can be excruciating to make such changes during eclipse times because our clarity can be so obscured. As such, it’s so important this week to use the New Moon in Virgo, to get as much transparency and perspective as possible before the clouds of the serpent start to envelop you.
It might also be helpful to think about clearing things out in your life that you no longer need. Deep cleaning, de-cluttering, tidying and all purifying tasks are all great things to do on eclipses.
It’s not just the Virgo-Pisces folks that will be affected. In fact, eclipse portals are universal agents of change for al of us. No one can really escape the grasp of the serpent. Therefore, this New Moon practice is relevant to everyone because somewhere in your natal chart, the new Virgo-Pisces eclipse cycle will impact a part of your life. It will want to bring change to this area and the more prepared you can be, the better.
Now is a great time to be checking in with an astrologer to see what the bigger picture plan for this new eclipse cycle will bring for you personally. A forecast reading can hone in on this eclipse cycle, including your expected trajectory based on natal activations, your past manifestations of these events, and your current obligations for them through the Solar Revolutions chart.
Another thematically-aligned event this week is Pluto’s entrance into Capricorn (2 Sep), which is the last 77 days that Pluto will be in Capricorn for another 250 years. Pluto is symbolic of Hades, the God of the Underworld, signifying the powers of unseen undercurrents and riches or resources from deep hidden places. It can also show our fears, paranoias, grasp for control and destruction at the same time. It’s Pluto that shifts us from loss to newness again through its unrivalled regenerative ability. This week as Pluto enters Capricorn for the last time in our lifetime (and several more lifetimes to come), you’re called to finalise a few things. At least start the process of putting something to rest for once and for all.
To understand what this means, you’ll have to look back to the time when Pluto entered Capricorn for the first time in January 2008. Step back from the microscopic view of your life and into the wider field where you can observe what the past 16 year phase has been about for you. If you have strong Cardinal placements in your chart – that’s Capricorn, Cancer, Libra and Aries – you might feel a heaviness return to you with Pluto triggering your active points.
In Capricorn, Pluto has been transforming major structures in society including those of governments, banks and corporations at the collective level, instigated by the Global Financial Crisis which occurred at the time of Pluto’s first entrance into Capricorn. What structures in your life have crumbled and transformed for you personally? How has your perspective of personal power in this area of life shifted in this time? This week, you’ve got one last chance to make any changes before the opportunity is gone. Another hint is to look at the second half of 2023 when Pluto re-entered Capricorn for the second last time. This period of time could be illustrative of the work ahead of you in the next 77 days.
Uranus has been showing up quite a bit in the last couple of months, causing surprising shifts, disruptions, breakdowns and refreshment. It continues to do so this week when Uranus Stations Retrograde (2 Sep) for the last time in Taurus until it returns in 84 years. Interesting that the two outer planets of Uranus and Pluto are making a ‘last’ event in a sign this week. You might expect more disruptions and unpredictability this week, or perhaps an unexpected turn of events which could go either way into delight/excitement or volatility/calamity. It really depends on your mindset and which way you see the world, as well as the state of your nervous system. Mercury squares the Stationing Uranus (7 Sep) which could cause havoc with technology, electricity, information systems, mercantile affairs, travel and communication. But perhaps these breakdowns need to occur in order to revive a declining system.
The shadiness of the eclipse portal is also felt through Mars’ square with Neptune (3 Sep) before Mars enters Cancer (5 Sep). On one hand, the otherwise rambunctious and loud impact of Mars’ aggression and anger could be subdued through Neptune’s and Cancer’s moist environments. But this could lead to the suppression of anger and resentment or the need to resort to indirect and less truthful interactions in order to assert yourself. A Mars-Neptune has been known for scams and dishonesty so watch out for this little firecracker who’s now going incognito.
Lastly, the Sun opposing Saturn (8 Sep) adds a further dampener to the vibe, all in good faith with the week of the eclipse portal. This opposition calls for a review of your year so far and how things are panning out with what you had aimed for. You could feel the pressure a bit more intensely this week with expectations, burdens, hard labour, duty and obligations staring you down. Take it slow, steady and thoroughly – Saturn-style.

Dear Shu, thank you always for your guidance. It is indeed incredible that two major changes like Pluto going back to Capricorn and Uranus retrograde are happening on the same day. I do have Mars in Libra 24 degrees and I Sun and Mercury in Capricorn (early degrees at least), plus Uranus on my descendant ah aha so we’ll see. I am not sure if having the IC in Pisces and therefore MC in Virgo is also important despite not having any planet in that axis (but in Sagittarius a lot). I am anyway excited (!) for the eclipses in this axis. As far as Saturn is concerned, even though I have him in my first house, I still battle with the harshness he delivers and I see it as punitive sometimes (not always). Have a lovely and as clear as possible week!
