  • 24 Aug   Mercury sextile Mars

Continuing from last week is the standout T-square planetary alignment involving the two malefic planets Mars and Jupiter, and the two benefic planets Venus and Jupiter. All four planets are engaging in a high-octane race to excel your personal growth by pushing you towards your limits and accelerating you beyond your stagnancies. Last week, Mars conjuncted Jupiter (14 Aug) and Mars squared Saturn (16 Aug) to commence this project. The advice last week was to wisely use this extraordinary power that’s available to you, and direct it towards your more important, aspirational ventures. It was also a lesson around humbling yourself to the work of life in the changing states of suffering and happiness.

This week, we see Venus join into this configuration with three significant aspects: a Venus square Jupiter (19 Aug),  an opposition to Saturn (19 Aug) and a square Mars (23 Aug).  Without going into detail about what each individual Venus transit means, what I can say is that the tension of growth, the reaching of milestones, the reflection of your 2020/2021 vision and the decisions being presented to you around them will steep down into your heart space this week. If last week presented thoughts and realisations of your external situations, this week, you may start to feel the impacts of this within your personal relationships, social sphere and a sense of connection to this matter. Venus rules our internal value systems as well, so you could also come to realisations on what’s still important to you around those events of 2020/2021, and what you may no longer value. You’ll also have a Full Moon in Aquarius (19 Aug) and New Mercury Cycle in Leo – the Mercury Inferior Cazimi (19 Aug) occurring at the same time to deepen your insights around these matters.

This could be a time of introspection and reckoning which may force you to alter your strategies in order to thrive into the future, given that Venus is in her fallen sign of Virgo. Continue to humble yourself into the insights of your future that the omens of life are presenting to you right now. Embrace the flexibility of the Virgoan nature to help you pivot into different pathways that could open up alternative opportunities for your future. And most importantly, remind yourself of the ultimate service that you’re trying to deliver to yourself or the greater collective.

Another interesting movement of Venus takes place in this configuration this week. This describes the situation where Venus is interjecting a potential malefic besiegement of Jupiter. What might be felt is the encouragement for you to remove the egoic pursuits that might have been presented from Mars to Jupiter last week, to see what true and humble value remains before you cement this into a permanent structure when Jupiter squares Saturn this week. So despite Venus’ fallen condition this week, she could be a gift that we will be thankful for later.

The Full Moon in Aquarius (19 Aug) will also be significant because it will happen most exactly squared to last month’s triple conjunction of Mars, Uranus and the dreaded Fixed Star, Algol. It’s possible that the material that comes up for you during this full moon will bring back remnants of the events that unfolded during mid-July. You may need to attend to matters that were instigated that week. Metaphorically, the spirit of Medusa could come back to your presence in some way, perhaps to seek your conscious attention or to encourage you to confront some long standing issues. Given the full moon is an opposition of the Sun and Moon, this means that the Sun will also square Uranus (19 Aug) on the same day, bringing our conscious mind to the highly electrified field of this week. Insights and realisations could come hard and fast without forewarning or convenience. You’ll need to fight hard to remain in the meandering flow of life’s river this week. The strong Uranus signature of this lunation will bring themes of liberation, rebellion and revolution as well as effects with electricity and technology.

Adding to this big week, the new Mercury cycle commencing in Leo will be a great time to think about a four-month plan around the themes of your Leo house in your natal chart. Mercury is continuing this year’s fire triplicity pattern with all of its cycles in 2024. The Leo installation which starts this week will lend well to any goals you have involving your personal dharma, which is to say, your work around who you are and what creative gifts lie within you that are seeking refinement and expression. If you wish to dissect this portion of your chart and see how you can use this Mercury cycle consciously, book a consultation here.
