Moon Gardening Calendar – Feb/Mar 2022
Here is a summary of the dates that Claire, Lou and I discussed on the last episode of Dig-It Gardening Show on Saturday 12 February, covering the period between 12 February to 9 March 2022.
Optimal times for PLANTING
12-13 Feb (1st Quarter, Moon in Cancer) – Excellent time to plant, transplant, raise seedlings and giving your garden a good soaking. Especially fertile for annuals with seeds inside the fruit / flower. Feed your plants, water heavily.
17 -18 Feb (3rd Quarter, Moon in Virgo) – Great time for any tree work or perennials. Root vegetables can be harvested, plant bulbs
21-22 Feb (3rd Quarter, Moon in Scorpio) – Trees, perennials, root crops and all plants growing on the same root stock each year can be planted, transplanted. A deep watering, especially to your trees will be good to do on this Moon
2-3 Mar (1st Quarter, Moon in Pisces) – Fertile time for planting and transplanting especially annuals with seeds outside. Seeds and seedlings planted under this moon have potential for abundant growth. Feeding and enriching soils recommended.
6-8 Mar (1st Quarter, Moon in Taurus) – Excellent time for planting and transplanting, especially for annuals with seeds outside the fruit and flower, root crops and leafy greens. Great time for propagating plants too.
optimal times for clearing
The following days are best for pruning, weeding, pest control, cleaning and any activities where you would like to stunt growth. Dates where clearing for growth is encouraged will be stated.
14-16 Feb (1st Quarter, Moon in Leo) – Weeding and pruning to destroy unwanted growth. Also excellent for landscaping, building or burning off (if appropriate).
19-20 Feb (3rd Quarter, Moon in Libra) – Weeding, clearing, pruning and attending to flower crops
23-25 Feb (4th Quarter, Moon in Sag) – Weeding, clearing, pruning and preparing for planting
28 Feb – 1 Mar (4th Quarter, Moon in Aquarius) – Destroying unwanted growth, weeding, pruning and clearing to reduce regrowth. Pest removal.
4-5 Mar (1st Quarter, Moon in Aries) – A constructive time for active maintenance, hardscaping, high energy work. Preparing beds for planting can be productive. Prune to stimulate growth.
9 Mar (2nd Quarter, Moon in Gemini) – Infertile time for planting but useful for clearing out beds and getting things prepared for fertile planting times. Working on pathways, irrigation and netting is beneficial.
Optimal times for rest
The following days are best to rest the garden and your body. Use these days to recuperate, enjoy the garden and exercise self care. Planning is also great to do on a New Moon. Also look at the optimal times for non-planting tasks (below) for other days of rest.
16 Feb (Full Moon in Leo) – Rest, harvest, salt bath, cleanse
1 Mar (New Moon in Aquarius) – Rest, recouperate, plan, design
optimal times for non-planting tasks
The following dates are generally good for activities that don’t require planting but are nevertheless important tasks for the garden. Infrastructure works like netting, fencing, building, irrigation or landscaping are suited to these dates. Otherwise, use these days for rest.
14-16 Feb (1st Quarter, Moon in Leo) – Weeding and pruning to destroy unwanted growth. Also excellent for landscaping, building or burning off (if appropriate).
