Eclipse Forecast – Dec 2019 / Jan 2020

This year, we will be unboxing a different kind of gift during the annual Boxing Day activities as the skies line up for an Annular Solar Eclipse at 4.12pm Australian Daylight Saving Time (ADST) on the 26 December 2019 at 4 degrees 6 minutes Capricorn. Two weeks later at the Full Moon, we will experience a Lunar Appulse Eclipse at 20 degrees exact in Cancer on 11 January 2019, 6.21am ADST.

As the second last set of eclipses to occur in Capricorn and Cancer until the year 2028, we will start to see themes being finalised based on the houses being activated by this eclipse. These themes started to emerge in July 2018 and have progressively developed since then into a life story that you will most likely recognise. And so, we all have a Cancer-Capricorn story to share at this current stage as the dragons move through these signs for another year. Then at June 2020, we will have our first Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, heralding a new three-year activation of the Sagittarius-Gemini narrative within us in another area of life.

Before we go through the meaning of this current pair of eclipses going through the houses, let’s study the planetary configurations of each eclipse first, and their significance. It would be helpful to have your natal chart handy to reference the houses where these eclipses will directly affect you. Solar Eclipse – 26 December 2019, 4:12pm ADST

The Solar Eclipse on the 26th December 2019 occurs at 4 degrees 6 minutes degrees Capricorn, closely conjunct Jupiter and the South Node. This configuration will come to meet Saturn and Pluto shortly after.

With Jupiter entering Capricorn earlier in the month of December, the general mood of the world is more subdued, pragmatic and serious. While in Sagittarius, Jupiter’s bounty could be felt abundantly through opportunities, ideas and generally hearing the word ‘yes’ all the time. Now in Capricorn, we start to put our nose to the grindstone to do all the work necessary to make our big plans happen. Hence, we may start to hear the word ‘no’ more often as a universal way of limiting how much we take on.

The good news is that Jupiter is still a benefic planet, and thus brings growth and optimism to this Solar Eclipse, albeit in a way that’s more grounded and practical rather than inspirational. This super charged New Moon will be a great time to review your intentions based on your journey from the past 18 months. What opportunities do you still need to sow for the next 12 months? What direction will you be aiming your bow towards? What truths do you still need to seek?

And within this contemplation, we must also review what we will need to let go of. Do you have plans that you made last year that has turned out to be more work than you can manage? Maybe you got a little too inspired last year with all your ideas or opportunities and now finding it challenging to make them all happen. This Solar Eclipse will open up new opportunities to review these commitments and allow you to honestly assess their viability without your ego stepping in to maintain its credibility. Like a late Christmas present, this eclipse will gift you with raw and honest insight to shed any unnecessary things that may jeopardise your long term survival.

Shortly after this Solar Eclipse, Saturn and Pluto come into play. They’ve been holding the secrets of some pretty big plans that are about to be announced when they finally make their exact conjunction just after the next Lunar Eclipse two weeks later. 2020 is not only a new decade on the roman calendar, but astrologically speaking, it will birth a lot of major long-term cycles for our ongoing existence. Saturn and Pluto are two of the key players behind all of this. So, we must make room for change, hence the opportunity to shed what we no longer need. If we create this space now, the Saturn Pluto conjunction can be free to exucute their 38-year plans for us. If we’re over-burdened doing excess things, the Saturn Pluto conjunction will need to crush and destroy some things to make room for new plans.

As this Saturn Pluto energy is being drawn into this Solar Eclipse, you may feel some heavy burdens, obstacles and intense exchanges in the air. Somehow, this may all feel too familiar because you probably felt this kind of pressure at the last three sets of eclipses. The anticipating feelings around life’s restructure and reorganisation can often be stressful and uncertain. You may not be able to see the new structure of your life at this time, however, the important footings for the next 38-year chapter in your life are being laid.

Lunar Eclipse – 11 January 2020, 6:21am ADST

The Lunar Eclipse on the 11th January 2020 occurs at 20 degrees Cancer, conjunct the North Node and closely opposing Mercury Cazimi and the Saturn Pluto conjunction.

The feeling of this super charged Full Moon is like the support act of a major production. There are some significant planetary configurations occuring at this time that are underpinned by this prominent eclipse.

Happening on the same day as the Lunar Eclipse, the Sun and Mercury will make its superior conjunction known as the superior Mercury Cazimi, which is a significant part of its synodic cycle. We can expect to experience powerful insights and revelations at the moment where Mercury is within 17 minutes of the Sun. On the 12 November 2019, Mercury made an interior conjunction with the Sun and rose as the morning star, full of curiosity and eagerness to explore. This time, Mercury will make a superior conjunction with the Sun and rise as a more mature evening star where it starts to discern information more reflectively and embodies the insights in a more meaningful way.

As well as sharing the same day as this Full Moon Eclipse, Mercury Cazimi also shares the same archetype as the Full Moon where an illumination and blossoming is occurring. This is a significant point in both cycles where one can realise its full potential. All of a sudden, the purpose becomes clear. Check your diaries for what you were doing around the Cancer New Moon on the 3 July 2019 – what started then that is now ‘blossoming’? What can you say about the purpose of this cycle that started then?

Two days after the Lunar Eclipse, the much anticipated Saturn Pluto conjunction finally comes exact at 22 degrees Capricorn, birthing a new 38-year cycle in our lives. Many astrologers have been talking about what this could mean for the world, but at the Lunar Eclipse, we will all get a sense of knowing for what this cycle means for us personally. We will not only be shown the insights about the purpose of the past 18 months; we will also get a visceral understanding of how these revelations will feel like within our bodies and life goals.

The themes of duty and family will be ignited again, as the eclipses occur in the hard-working sign of Capricorn and the nurturing sign of Cancer. The structures that we have been working on around duty, work and family have been the central theme as we start to close one 38-year cycle, and begin another. Think of what you were doing 38 years ago. What structures did you implement then that is coming to an end, literally or figuratively? What new foundations are you currently laying for the future? If you were too young to remember, think of what was happening in your parents’ lives – what did they set up then that has held your life until now? What emotions and beliefs have they imparted upon you that are able to be released now? These themes will have emerged as important stories from July 2018 and are coming into full realisations at this current eclipse. Transformation pending.

What do these eclipses mean in your birth chart?

As eclipses occur in two polar signs, they will effect two houses in your natal chart that share the same axis. Since July 2018, the eclipses have occurred in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn, highlighting the general themes of duty, family, structures and ancestral roots. Your birth chart will contain the signs of Cancer / Capricorn somewhere – so, here are some general interpretations for the Cancer / Capricorn eclipses across all six polarities.

To find which axis Cancer / Capricorn falls in your chart, look for their symbols in the houses they occupy. If you need a birth chart, get a free one sent to you by completing this form.

1st / 7th houses

The way you view relationships and your personal identity have been under great pressure since July 2018. You’ve had to re-structure what it means for you to be yourself in relationships and other one-on-one partnerships. Within this, your idea of independence may have been challenged and the fine line between co-dependancy and your loyal ways has been highlighted. By now, you may be able to gain some clarity around how you can manage to maintain your sense of self within your relationships. This could look like re-established boundaries, a new commitment to your health, transformation of your personal image, re-structuring of relationship roles and relationship change. The purpose of this cycle is all about setting up a healthy balance of self and other.

2nd / 8th houses

The area of finances and possessions has been an important topic for you for the past 18 months. The way you earn, spend and save money, as well as your psychological attitude towards wealth is a recurring theme. Shared resources, such as your loans, debts and bank accounts, as well as death-related resources such as inheritances, wills and deceased estates have all been under restructure. By the end of this eclipse series in Cancer/Capricorn, you will hopefully have had the opportunity to set up some major new structures around finance, money and possessions. This includes your attitudes towards wealth and abundance – do you operate from a fear-based, lack mentality? Or do you believe there’s enough to go around? What did your parents teach you about money? The purpose of this cycle is all about establishing sound financial structures for your future.

3rd / 9th houses

The eclipses through the 3rd/9th axis usually brings up learning and education as key themes. Many manifestations can occur around this, including the start of new studies, finding new teachers / mentors, focussing on imparting your knowledge, developing a new philosophical orientation about life, travelling to gain more experiences and taking your knowledge to the next level by restructuring your practices. Within all of this, you may have had to let go of some long-held ideas or create new structures around the way you study or teach. The purpose of this cycle is related to how you can turn information into meaningful wisdom in your daily life. Applying your knowledge is the key theme.

4th / 10th houses

Your family structure, parents, your ancentral roots, your home and other domestic matters have been on the agenda for the past 18 months. This has been a time of re-establishing strong foundations from which you can balance these private world matters, against the demands of the outer world such as your work, career aspirations and social obligations. Perhaps in the past, one dominated over the other and the eclipses in Cancer and Capricorn have brought you on a journey to re-calibrate this. This may look like changes in your career or family issues that have forced a re-prioritisation of what’s truly important to yourself. The purpose of this cycle is to create balance between work and family, and social and emotional well-being.

5th / 11th houses

The past 18 months has likely left you in a place where your creativity and personal endeavours have been blocked. Perhaps the demands of managing children, social obligations or a lack of community support may have stunted your ability to create a life that truly sparks your inner truth. During these eclipses, you will have the opportunity to make your personal dreams more realistic within the context of your current duties. Perhaps letting go of some past ideas may make more room for you to be spontaneously living in the flow of life so that you can find opportunities in your every day environment to create and manifest your dreams. The purpose of this cycle is to establish ways in which you can tap into your inner creative reserves no matter where you are in life.

6th / 12th houses

Since activating your 6th / 12th house axis, the eclipses have probably caused you to feel a strong churning of emotional waters that may have caused inner turmoil and personal suffering, although to the outside world, you may appear to be going about your daily routines per usual. In fact, you’re probably not even sure what this feeling is and what to call it but you feel this very deeply in your primordial waters. So, the past 18 months has been a period of emotional and mental survival. Isolation as well as the familiarity of your routines has been your safe place. The stresses caused by this eclipse set may have manifested in mental illness, chronic health problems erupting or difficulties coping in your work. Though the waters are murky here, you’re starting to see a powerful purpose emerge around restructuring your inner temple. By doing so, you are setting up some long term coping strategies for times where you may be subjected to self-sabotage, mental unrest and personal sorrows.
