Is this the dawn of the Age of Aquarius?
Many people are confusing this first Saturn Jupiter conjunction in the air sign of Aquarius with the concept of the Age of Aquarius. However, these two concepts are not related at all.
The idea of the Age of Aquarius is somewhat a modern construct, created to bring meaning to the precession of the equinoxes. The definition provided by Merriam-Webster dictionary describes the precession of the equinoxes as “a slow westward motion of the equinoxes along the ecliptic caused by the gravitational action of sun and moon upon the protuberant matter about the earth’s equator.”
As astronomy is not my forte, I shall refer you to this interesting article on the NASA website about Hipparchus of Nicea’s landmark discovery of the precession of the equinoxes.
The fact that the Saturn Jupiter conjunction in the air element happens to occur in the sign of Aquarius has many people confusing it with the Age of Aquarius.
Rather, the Saturn Jupiter cycle is an ancient system of societal time-keeping, used by ancient cultures as far back as the Zoroastrians (2nd milleniun BCE). Some hypothesise that the Jupiter Saturn conjunction could have been the Star of Bethlehem that led the three wise men to find Jesus. The Age of Aquarius is a much newer concept that has been constructed independantly by the modern astrology movement.
In more modern times though, astrologers look to the cycle of Saturn and Jupiter to predict world matters – topics like financial markets, political systems, leaders, regimes, weather, stock markets, social trends and other matters falling into the branch of astrology called Mundane Astrology. Their systematic 20 year cycle and 200 year elemental sign shift makes the Saturn Jupiter cycle a cosmic clock of world affairs.
Therefore, the Saturn Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius is not related to the Age of Aquarius at all. Personally, as a student of traditional astrology, I will always work with the Saturn Jupiter cycles for understanding world patterns in mundane astrology, or topics involving life structure, goals and aspirations in personal natal astrology.
