Planning with the Planets

by | Mar 25, 2020 | 0 comments

It’s no coincidence that the days of the week in Latin languages, stems from the planets that rule them.

Lundi    Monday, ruled by the Moon

Mardi   Tuesday, ruled by Mars

Mecredi  Wednesday, ruled by Mercury

Jeudi  Thursday, ruled by Jupiter

Vendredi  Friday, ruled by Venus

Samedi  Saturday, ruled by Saturn (‘dies sabbati’ in Latin means day of the Sabbath)

Dimanche  Sunday, ruled by the Sun (‘dies solis’ in Latin means day of the Sun)

The following slides explain the method of determining planetary days and hours but due to the limited time, I decided not to cover this. However, I thought you may be interested having this as a reference anyway. Instead, I suggested downloading one of the numerous phone apps that calculate planetary days and hours automatically.

The phone app that I use is called Planetary Times. This (along with many other apps) is free of charge and more than ample in detail for our purpose. I’ve also used Astro Clock which was also sufficient for my needs. Upon searching with the term “Planetary Hours” I’ve also found other apps that seem to be fit for our purpose, including Astro Hours (Star of the Magi), plus a suite of other paid versions (tho who wants to pay when you can get the same info for free?).

The important thing to remember is that planetary days and hours is sensitive to your geographical location. Therefore, if you happen to be travelling (probably not during this isolation period!), be sure to change the longitude / latitude settings on the app. I think these apps may have an automatic geographical adjustment feature anyway.

We didn’t really have much time to go into the Moon’s influence, but it’s important to at least observe whether the Moon is waxing or waning in phase, and apply this to the activities of the planets’ influences accordingly. ie. Saturn hour on a waning moon – Mow your lawns (Saturn ruling limits, endings and waning Moon has a decreasing influence) .

If you follow the Moon cycles, you could also take into consideration the sign in which the Moon is travelling through to add another layer of interpretation. Eg. Moon in an earth sign like Taurus + waxing in nature + planetary hour of Mars = plant garlic crops (garlics having correspondence to Mars). It can get a little complex so just start by observing planetary hours to start with.
