You may have already felt the intensity of this week’s eclipse over the past fortnight but this is the beginning of a new global theme that will become very familiar to everyone over the next two-year period.

On 18 September 2024 there will be a Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces – essentially a Full Moon forming from a Moon in Pisces and the Sun opposing it from the sign of Virgo. Every six months until the first quarter of 2027, there will be an eclipse in either Virgo or Pisces. You can expect to experience shifts in the areas of life ruled by this axis in your natal chart. A reorientation can also be seen in the external social, cultural and geopolitical context as this new eclipse story unravels.

This Virgo-Pisces axis will introduce a theme of order and chaos that could become very relevant over this time.  Have you felt the growing intensity of disorganisation, confusion and disarray lately? Virgo is associated with organisation, efficiency, duty and practicality while Pisces can bring confusion, disorientation, escapism and compassion. When the eclipse path follows these two signs, we can feel stuck in between the two sides, with a whole heap of questioning and realisations coming out of it.

Reflective exercise

Think back to earlier this year in around the 9th/10th March 2024 – did you have any pressing themes you were initiating at that stage? This was the Pisces New Moon, which was the birth place for the Pisces Full Moon eclipse that’s about to revisit you. Reflecting on this stage of your life will be truly  helpful in trying to decipher what the lessons and tasks of this eclipse will be for you.

With Rahu (North Node) residing in the Piscean region until 2027, the assumption for this series of eclipses is that you’ll need to experience personal growth by embracing the Piscean qualities which includes compassion, surrender and sacrifice. Pisces is a passive sign, soft and subtle in nature, with a preference to avoid, dissolve or meander through the world. It likes to avoid the details but look to the higher perspectives for a sense of solace and survival.

The spiritual-material connection of Pisces-Virgo

The symbol of the fishes of the Pisces constellation has long been associated with religious and spiritual motifs and there’s no greater personification of this than Jesus, the ultimate redeemer, saviour, martyr and believer in God’s higher plan.

Just as fishes cannot survive without water, the Pisces eclipse will reveal important insights about your interconnectedness to your greater, collective environment. No matter how independent you believe yourself to be, there’s no immunity from the broader space you find yourself in. The all is found in the one. The motifs of the fishes and the religious symbolism illustrates the infinite boundlessness of the oceans and the unwavering light of Spirit that cannot be denied.

In the past week of this eclipse tunnel, we saw the news of the Taliban’s introduced law that forbids a woman’s face from being seen and being heard in public. Supposedly, this legislation is consistent with those stated within Islamic Sharia law, which interstingly aligns to the religious symbolism of Pisces. This is also particularly striking because the sign of Pisces was traditionally considered a mute sign, or one that is ‘slow of voice’ and passive. The occurrence of this event with the first Pisces eclipse indicates that this is a new storyline that will be opening up for the next two years.

During this eclipse portal, situations may force you to submit your control, and trust the bigger plan unfolding. Through surrender, trust and an open mind, you may discover many possibilities to explore new opportunities which you might otherwise have been blind to. At an everyday level, it could be the pressure to let go of the minor details in order to focus on the broader picture. To go with the flow, as the fishes do. Depending on which way you see the world, this could bring challenges, conflict and differences with yourself or those around you. Rigidity and inflexibility will be key areas of self development with this eclipse series. Rather, building your sense of trust in higher forces could a strong philosophical topic for the season.

Unclear boundaries

The negative ramification of the Piscean interconnected thought is the undefined boundaries, nebulousness and impressionability associated with this sign. The moist temperament of Pisces helps to spread the good as well as the bad and leading into this eclipse, we already see the risk of an Avian Influenza epidemic being reported. Interestingly, the last North Node Pisces eclipses coincided with the discovery of the same bird flu strain being discovered in a swan in Scotland in April 2006.

I was half expecting to see water-bourne type issues emerge given the strong association with water and liquids. There’s strong possibilities of important stories to unfold over the next two years involving water, liquids, oceans, the maritime industry, water catastrophes like floods, typhoons, etc., dampness, leaks, gases and marine wildlife to name a few suggestions. In health areas, Pisces rules the feet, along with lethargy, low vitality, low immunity, moist diseases such as influenza, colds and water retention.

Embracing the confusion and mystery

One of the most distinctive features of Pisces is the state of confusion and chaos which suggests that during the next couple of years, you may lack clarity in your choices and decisions, especially in the house where Pisces resides in your natal chart. Adding to the chaotic state, the risk of negligence and carelessness are also things to be aware of. The next two years are expected to be wildcards, given major outer planetary activity that can indicate geopolitical transformations in this time. Understandably, many of us will be confused and unclear about the way forward until this instability settles. Rather than trying to control that which is out of your hands, it might be best to indulge in the mystery to see what possibilities may emerge. The art of surrendering will become the key lesson.

Seen as one of the most ego-less signs of the Zodiac, the Pisces eclipse can help humanity transcend beyond concrete, material constructs that the ego tries to keep you rooted in. This could bring great awareness of different worlds, spiritual awakenings, existential realisations and connection to higher realms. The urge towards escapism could also be strong, hence Pisces’ association with drugs, substances and stimulants that can alter the state of mind.

The area of psychedelic research is an interesting area to watch with the Pisces eclipse story. After many successful trials, there could be growing interest from investors in this area over the next two years. From the famous discovery of LSD by Albert Hoffman in the early 1940s, to the introduction of the Control Substances Act by President Nixon, and the revival of psychedelic research studies and trials from 2016, the Pisces eclipses has been the consistent backdrop behind all of these significant milestones in psychedelic research. We can expect to see further developments in this area with this next dose of Piscean eclipse activations between now and 2027.
