Three days into the new Venus cycle, the New Moon in Leo (16 Aug) will continue the theme of ‘turning over a new leaf’. If you had planned to inaugurate the Venus New Year but missed the opportunity, then this New Moon in Leo is a good compromise. Both are feminine planets starting new cycles in the sign of Leo.
The Lunar cycle works much differently to the Venus one though. What you’ll find is that this New Moon in Leo will emerge into form by the time we hit the Full Moon in Leo on 25 January 2024. Your New Moon intentions therefore, should aim for a timeframe of approximately 6 months, realistically.
Using a wider lens, every lunation has a greater 19 year cycle, called the Metonic Cycle. Therefore, if you’d like to go deep with what this week’s lunation means, consider the New Moon in Leo on 16 August 2004. This time will have the same vibration as the current New Moon this week. Similarly, this week’s energies will also connect to a time on 16 August 2042. It can be a bizarre reflection exercise to do this week because it can often bring up events that are thematically linked to what your current happenings are. Try it and let me know what you come up with in the comments!
I suspect that this week’s New Moon will be a little bit more strange and disruptive than the last one. The Sun and the Moon make a square to Uranus (16 Aug) which will cause excitement as well as turbulence. Uranus has already been a strong feature of the Venus Retrograde phase, seeking to liberate ourselves from oppressions we may be feeling in our relationships, financial situations and creative life. Uranus offers the opportunity to level up in these matters by building your level of defiance to allow you to advocate for your own self worth and personal values. Even though this may cause a stir in your environment, it’s the ticket to allow more freedom, inhibitions and openness into your life. Uranus is like the tipping point where the value of your liberation and autonomy overrides the drama that the fight for freedom causes.
Therefore, when it’s configured so dynamically with the New Moon in the Self-seeing sign of Leo, you could find yourself initiating things that you may not have had the courage to do. Or, you could finally move ahead with something that has been crippling you with inertia for some time. Mars also makes a trine to Uranus (16 Aug) on the same day adding to the injection of courage, leadership and focus on the task of defending your freedom and prioritising yourself. Mars Uranus combinations are potentially dangerous, rebellious and volatile, but the softer trine aspect might help level out the peak experiences into a more productive and less belligerent form. Nevertheless, sparks might fly and aggravations could be caused, equallying the refreshing vibe of a new clean slate to work from. Expect some tensions and anxiety this week and face each day with flexibility that new possibilities are possible.
If you can, take yourself off this week to do something a little wild, exciting and out of routine – something that will get your adrenaline pumping that will help satiate the Mars Uranus channels. This is especially true if you have children. A break from routine this week could be a great reset and a way to avoid the anger and volatility of this combination. Fortunately, Mars is in the cold and dry sign of Virgo, ruled by a strong Mercury meaning that the hot, fiery ways of Mars can be tempered down while the logic and rational mind of Mercury will prevail in situations requiring powerful communication, writing, problem solving, strategy, networking, short trips and mental arithmetics. These Mercurial activities will help bring in the Air quality to prevent the simmering coals of Mars’ fire from going out. We always need the fire to be on to draw inspiration from. Fresh air, breathwork, opening windows and ventilation are other physical ways to bring balance to the situation.
In the spirit of drawing more Mercurial Air, why not search for your 2004 diary and look up August 2004. If you don’t journal, phone a friend who does and see if this produces any interesting conversations.
