Quote of the week

“How can I be useful, of what service can I be? There is something inside me, what can it be?

Vincent Van Gogh

things to do this week
  • Think things through before you make a stand for yourself
  • Physical activity will help dispel the fiery nature of the Full Moon
  • Get plenty of rest and self care, leave plenty of time for dreaming, solitude and inward journeying
  • Mark the Mars Neptune Square dates in your calendar and leave the preceeding week relatively free for dreaming, solitude or focus on your spiritual / charitable service (12 Oct / 20 Noc / 15 Mar)
  • Turn your disaticfaction into acts of selfless service
  • Watch for victim/martyrdom and addictive tendencies
  • Use spiritual devotion as a remedy for the Mars square Neptune story
Transit dates
  • 10 Oct   Full Moon in Aries
  • 11 Oct   Mercury enters Libra
  • 11 Oct   Sun trine Saturn
  • 12 Oct   Mars square Neptune (1st of 3)
  • 12 Oct   Mercury opposite Jupiter (3rd of 3)
  • 14 Oct   Venus trine Saturn

The Full Moon in Aries this week (10 Oct) could bring up feelings of unworthiness, inadequacies or helplessness which may ignite some deep-seated anger and resentment. Perhaps it could be about the lack of acknowledgement that you’re experiencing, despite your efforts to appease others around you. At times, you may feel as though you’re invisible, or that your needs don’t matter at all. You may have been able to tolerate things pretty well, but during this Full Moon, you could come to some realisations about what exactly is worth fighting for. If you feel the need to take a stand this week, allow yourself some discipline to think things through first, to be sure of your position. Remind yourself that you don’t need to act immediately, even though you want to. Go for a walk, do some physical activity, pat your dog or some other type of activity that will dispel the fiery Mars ruler of the Full Moon in Aries. If after this you still feel the urge to continue, then do so with courage and conviction.

There will be some helpful planetary placements available to you if you decide to take action. The two benefic planets (Venus and Jupiter) are situated in the signs of the Sun and Moon and this will help to bring good outcomes overall.

Mercury’s entry into Libra (11 Oct) and the Sun and Venus trine to Saturn (11 Oct & 14 Oct) will also offer some support. Firstly, Mercury in Libra will help bring some diplomacy and rational thought to those involved. Mercury’s triplicity rulership in this sign shows the importance of justice, equality and the consideration for others. Secondly, Saturn’s trine to the Sun and Venus will ensure a sense of order, management and productivity, bringing structure and sensibility to the picture. These are the values that you should endeavour to incorporate into your week in order to gain the most benefit from these helpful aspects.

What’s interesting this week is the completion of the Mercury Jupiter opposition story which commenced in mid-September while a new story involving a Mars Neptune square will begin. These two stories end and begin on the same day – 12 October – as if one door is closing and another opening.

The final Mercury Jupiter opposition (12 Oct) completes a five week exploration of the mind and what it’s capable of doing. Both of these planets speak to the intellect. Mercury is the rational intellect, while Jupiter, the philosophical mind seeking answers to big questions. If you’ve found yourself on some kind of learning experience over the past five weeks, hopefully the understanding you’ve gained has offered you some lifelong tactical skills and greater meaning behind what you do.

The Mars Neptune square (12 Oct) is a longer, more challenging journey to unfold over the next six months. The Neptune square is part of the Mars Retrograde story that’s about to commence at the end-October, and will no doubt add to the weakness (immunity, physically, mentally), tiredness and weariness that you’re likely to experience during the Retrograde.

Mars Neptune squares can challenge our ability to stay grounded and focused on a task. Either we get distracted easily, lose interest and energy or get overwhelmed altogether. This combination also shows irritability, moodiness and discontent which is not a winning feeling to say the least. So brace yourself – we’re in for a heavy journey of trudging-through-the-mud over the next six months.

Of course, this will come in waves, the first one being this week. 20 November and 15 March will be the next two waves. These waves may coincide with feelings of helplessness, victimisation, martyrdom and escapism. The lack of groundedness and boundaries, combined with the overwhelm can be a difficult condition especially when it comes to dealing with your vices and addictions. Get plenty of rest and self care, especially the week leading up to these three dates. Mark them in your calendar now and keep those weeks open for dreaming, solitude and inward journeying.

Thinking of the more sacred dimensions of the Mars Neptune square could allow us to transcend the mundane challenges of the six months. Neptune is an archetypal space where there is no structure, boundaries or form. It wants nothing more than to unify and join forces, just as rivers are drawn to the ocean waters. When we act in this way, it requires us to park our egos aside and consider the greater impacts of our thoughts and actions. It requires us to be self-less in order to find connection to a greater vision.

During this Mars Neptune square, there’s an opportunity for us to bring our energy, action and drive towards an area of selfless service. This could come in the form of charitable work, or simply being of genuine service where you seek no acknowledgement or reward in return. The push towards an area of service could be motivated by a deep sense of irritability, anger, frustration or discontent around a particular issue, which may inspire you to do something about it. So perhaps it may be helpful this week to think about how you can transmute feelings of dissatisfaction into genuine contributions to your community life. Just be mindful that you don’t step into the victim/martyr mentality and as a result, get worn down by the process. Stay on track with your personal quest for service.

Spiritual devotion is also a great remedial strategy for the Mars Neptune square. Mars shows a drive and inner impulse, while Neptune shows a higher cause that we seek to unify with. So, the tension between these two concepts show a constructive possibility to engage with some kind of spiritual devotional act during these next six months, starting from this week. If you’ve been seeking a greater purpose or a vision to commit to, this could be an opportunity to explore it, whether it be a religion, spiritual practice, philosophical study, meditation or the like.

Thank you! Knowing these themes in advance helps us to prepare when the time comes. I wonder what this square will bring with Mars in the 8th and Neptune in the 5th house.
Eager to watch your episode on Mars retrograde 🙂

My pleasure. And yes, we do spend a little bit of time discussing the Mars Neptune square in the Youtube interview. Watch this space!

Yes Shu and Angela, knowing these themes in advance helps my will to commit to a considered and sure process of writing. And I personally am encouraged by the energy held in both the opposition and square. Thank you both.
