Mars in Aries – Get ready for a 6-month makeover

From 29th June 2020, Mars will be spending a little over 6 months in its home sign of Aries, compared to the five or six weeks it usually takes to move through an entire sign.
This extended stay of Mars in Aries means that one area of your chart (and life) will be under the influence of this hot and dry planet. It’s indicative of decisive action, independence and self-motivation. It rules the act of severing as well as sharp objects, and is associated with the archetype of the warrior who engages in conflict in order to protect.
Wherever the sign of Aries resides in your chart, you will notice increased energy, motivation, drive and action in this area, while also leaving you open to conflict, confrontation, burnout and inflamed situations. The concentration of action and effort in this area of your chart means that these topics this will take up important project space in your life for the next six months, taking you through the ups and downs of the Mars in Aries rollercoaster. This is especially so if you have Mars as a current ruling timelord, or if you have any prominent Mars rulerships in your chart.
Traditionally, Mars was assigned rulership of inflammations due to its fast and acute nature and choleric temperament. If we think of imflammations, they are the body’s first response to an irritant in order to protect the body from infection. Using this physical metaphor, Mars’ concentrated energy in one house of your chart for six months is like this area of your life undergoing an inflammatory response. Something about the affairs of that house is being ignited and protected. This could look like an acute incident (ie. accident, one-off event) or a chronic one (ie. patterns, behaviours, etc.). Thinking of the affairs of the house ruled by Aries, what is being inflamed or raised to your attention? What is being protected or fought for? How are these events connected to the idea of freedom and independence?
Let’s look at this 6-month event of Mars in Aries through a horoscope style analysis. As always, keep in mind that all horoscopes are based on theoretical charts using each of the 12 rising signs. If you require specific natal chart or year-ahead consultations, sessions can be booked online. If you don’t know your rising sign, start with reading your sun sign and consider booking a consultation.
Aries rising
It’s time to pull out those sneakers and start an exercise regime, or some high-energy activity that you can channel Mars into – yard work, gym work, gardening, etc. With so much heat at your disposal, it would be wise to use it for energy-inducing activities, rather than allowing this pent up energy to affect your relationships or mental health. An excess of heat here can lead to things like conflicts, confrontations, accidents, anger and headaches. If you’ve been feeling a little unmotivated in the past couple of months, you’ll be ready to get back into action with your big task list, so watch out anyone in your way! Some mindfullness practices may be useful to counteract tendencies to be selfish, inconsiderate or antagonistic while managing stress and burn out.
Taurus rising
There’s only so long you can keep the lid on all of your secrets, fantasies, inner thoughts, traumas and painful memories. Your inner world and imaginal realm will be ignited for the next 6 months, revealing deep truths that you’ve manage to contain so far. This could look like a past lover re-emerging to remind you of how much you’re still hurting, an unfinished dream provoking feelings of loss and sorrows, an angry outburst or self-sabotaging behaviour triggering past traumas and grief. With focus and determination, you will have more courage than ever during the next 6 months to confront these ‘skeletons’. Start a dream journal to help you listen more carefully to messages from your subconscious, and take time to care for yourself.
Gemini Rising
Your social radar will be on high alert as you gather more intel on the who’s who of your future dreams and ideals. The next 6 months will see you in the process of ‘becoming’ as you charge forward to your dreams with great vigour and courage. Along the way, you’ll meet people, groups and networks that could be your greatest advocates and supporters in the future. This is a powerful time to make a ‘first impressions’ impact on the right people, so start making your list, and start working it. There’s a potential you could ruffle a few feathers with your forthright approach, but if you play your cards right, this could be a productive time for your future goals.
Cancer Rising
Now’s the time to take that brave step in your career or public life. Though you’re usually more tentative in your approach, you may feel impelled to be more direct about your career or external life, confronting bosses, clients or authoritarians about what’s important to you. This will be a busy and dynamic time where action can be taken if you wish to do so but be mindful that speed and haste can look like accidents or mistakes too. Try to slow down and remember, you can’t please everyone. Your integrity and respect for others will always get you there.
Leo rising
In another time, you’d probably thinking of your next holiday right now – a quick winter escape to Bali; plans for an extravagently indulgent Christmas break perhaps. Don’t let the current travel ban ruin your travel bug. It’s time to go within to do some mind travel. Consume yourself with a cultural novel, do some deep reading to expand on your philosophical worldview or perhaps, busy yourself with a spiritual practice. The next 6 months could see you become more sensitive to inequalities, prejudices and things that really invoke your philanthropic tendencies or challenge your moral judgement. Perhaps these issues of morality may manifest in the area of the law, so this may be a good time to take care of any legalities you need to address to avoid any further complications in this area.
Virgo Rising
Activating the 8th house connected to mortality, our shadows, anxieties, oppression and other people’s money, Mars will make its heated presence felt here especially in the areas of loans, debts, taxes, inheritances, wills and all manner of financial resources of a shared nature. If you’ve neglected this area of life, now’s the time financial management becomes priority. However, try to slow down so you don’t overlook any important details because the fiery Mars prefers speed over diligence. This could also be a time where endings and deaths come to your attention, whether literal or metaphorical. In any case, thinking of these topics may see you take some action like writing or updating a will, managing deceased estates, organising the division of money and resources, etc.
Libra rising
Even though you’re one to put relationships and people first, the next 6 months will see you being more pre-occupied with partnerships and spouses. You could come into some confronting situations with people, leaving you on the other end of aggression, conflict, anger and selfishness. As hard as this is, try not to take things too personally – their behaviour is more about them than it is about you. It’s important that you also recognise your own power and value to your relationships. As long as you have a good grasp of this, you may perhaps feel more comfortable to let others take the lead for the time being. Use your good negotiation skills to diffuse heated situations. At the end of the day, you want a harmonious outcome for everyone. If you’re looking for partnerships – romantic or business, this could be a time of activation, although they could be of a fast and heated nature.
Scorpio Rising
Be prepared for all work and no play until the year’s end, as Mars activates your 6th house, giving you extra drive and motivation to get organised in your everyday processes. Think of what you could do to work smarter and not necessarily harder by putting in systems for automation or implementing routines and technologies to help you. Depending on what you do, you could even be thinking of employing or commissioning someone to help in your line of work. Remember that all of this work will eventually contribute to your bigger goals, but you may not necessarily see the results during the next 6 months. Think of this as a time of investment where you really need to roll your sleeves up and do the work without much reward or recognition. Be mindful of sneaky health issues flaring up at this time too – this could be a sign that you need to slow down and try more focused physical activities like yoga, martial arts, tai chi or simply spending more time with your pets.
Sagittarius Rising
Dreaming big has always been your thing and this next 6 months could be a great opportunity for you to put some action behind these visions. Mars in Aries will inspire you at your creative core, beckoning you to dive into projects, hobbies and outlets that allow you to reconnect with your true essence. Even though you can’t travel far, there’s plenty of interesting adventures to be had. Use this time of heightened energy to go on outdoor adventures or other high-energy hobbies that you’ve missed doing in recent times. If you have children, this could be a great time to be present with them at their level, which would do wonders to help you connect with your own childhood memories and inner child. You may also find them particularly rowdy right now as a result of ‘cabin fever’ so take this opportunity to go out and do something active to diffuse their energy. Spontaneity and adventures await.
Capricorn Rising
Moving forward with home projects could see you gain a renewed enthusiasm in life right now. If these decisions or projects have been a long time coming, you may find the next 6 months exhillirating as they progress quickly. If you’re born during the evening when the Sun was below the horizon, you’re likely to have a productive and action-packed 6 months. Those born during the day may tend to struggle with their energy, going from extremes to burn out. Try to listen intently to your body for cues. All aspects of home and private life will be touched by the heat of Mars this half of the year, this includes immediate family, wider family or clan, ancestry as well as your inner, private world. Don’t be surprised if there’s the odd arguments happening in this area or situations that require your attention and action.
Aquarius Rising
Now’s the time to stand out and speak your truth as the house of communication and connectivity is activated for the next 6 months. You may feel called to spread your message in some way whether that be through teaching, writing, publishing or practicing your art form in a more public sense. With any luck, Mars in Aries will help your confidence grow as your message is distributed to your local neighbourhood, or perhaps to the world with the help of the internet. Similarly, you may also feel called to develop in your own learning. Taking a course of study, engaging a mentor or study buddy are all good ways to exercise this active Mars energy in a mentally-rich house. If you have siblings, they may also feature prominently for the rest of the year. With so much action in a mental house, you’ll need to make time to rest your mind – walking, running and other repetitive physical activities could help with this.
Pisces Rising
There’s a chance you’re seriously thinking about your next move in the way you make, save and spend your money right now. If not, perhaps this is a blind spot that’s about to grab your attention soon. There’s never been a better time to define what you’re worth – both intrinsically and materially – and decide on how you want to leverage this value for maximum gain. At the heart, Mars is fiering up your need to be financially free and independent. This may raise important ideals about what is really important for you, making you question material security over happiness or personal values. Use this next 6 months to makeover your financial situation.
